What is your wedding band made of?

I used to have a heavy gold wedding band, but for our 7th anniversary my wife upgraded me to titanium. Now I'm like 10 grams lighter! Maybe for our 10th she'll get me one in carbon fiber.

Mine's white gold, but it's on my keychain, not my finger(which doesn't fing, oddly enough).

Flint. . .I've been married since the Paleolithic.

Slvoid has a good idea in tungsten carbide. Unlike love, tungsten carbide [and herpes] is forever.

We didn't have a band. We just had a bagpiper lead us down the aisle.

Ahh... I got caught up in the Platinum hype of the past decade or so... I like it, but the stuff was expensive as all get out. My wife's wedding band is kind of skinny as a result, so it looks strange if she doesn't wear it along with the engagement ring. I do like the heft of the platinum band. It feels more solid and 'there' than a lighter gold or even lighter titanium band.

I did get her a titanium band that is like my platinum ring so that she could have a more 'casual' ring for when she didn't want to wear the diamond, but still wanted to have a ring on her hand.... alas, she doesn't wear it often.

Knowing what I know now, I'd get titanium, or possibly white gold, and use the extra cash to up the quality of the diamond.

By the way, guys, when they get into that whole 4 C's of diamonds remember that the C for Carat is much less important in the long run that the C's for Cut, Clarity, and Color. A 1+ Carat diamond is crap if the other C's are no good. A .5 or .75 Carat diamond will look amazing if the other C's are of quality. Women know this. (At least, that's what I hear and read.... I don't *truly* know what women want.... )

That diatribe on diamonds being said.... go for Moissanite for the stone... she'll never know... ha ha ha!!!

I wanted to get titanium, but I got out-voted. I saw the titanium band on the Abyss and thought it'd be cool to have something that could possibly save my life if I ever needed to stick my hand in heavy sliding door while under a mile of water.

I have a bi-metal weave of Platinum and 18k yellow gold. Lots of craftsmanship, LOTS of metal. It's a boat anchor.

We both have platinum, but I would go with titanium if I had the choice all over again. Platinum just shows too much wear and requires an awful lot of upkeep or it becomes very dull. Looks fantastic when clean, though.

Had a white gold band, designed and made by a friend.
Now I have a stone from the beach where we were engaged, where I returned my ring to the earth, after we split up.

(still great friends, still talk, no ugly divorce, just a simple... wow, we've become different people...)

Congrats to you all for keeping it together...

...and while I like the idea of tungsten carbide, I was kinda thinking the next one might be magnesium... never can be too sure when you might need an emergency fire.

Our wedding bands are Ti with a gold stripe. I have several carbon rings, made from trimmed handle bars. Be sure to smooth it well or you will end up with many a carbon splinter in your fingers.
The most beautiful wedding bands i have seen were made from black coral and gold. We saw them while doing interbike and were going to get them but then the reality of $$ and the amazing durability of the Ti rings came to play.

10K gold. You should have put the various levels of gold as choices... 10K, 14K, 18K, 24K.

We were interested in cheap. What the heck, it's just a symbol. Why dump a fortune on it? I'm no less married than the guy with a $4000 unobtanium ring.

Also 10K gold is probably lighter than 24K, because don't they alloy it with nickel? Which is a lot lighter than gold.

Platinum. It weighs a ton and gets pretty dinged up since I usually forget to take it off when I'm working in the yard. It probably needs to be resized too because (thanks to riding my bike) I'm 20lbs lighter than when we wed 5 1/2 years ago.

True. But considering it's about the only jewelry I wear, I wanted it to be nice.

About the time my wife and I were shopping for rings, my motorcycle was stolen. The insurance settlement was more than I paid for it (sweat equity, I guess). As a result, we were both able to get better rings than we originally budgeted.

After 25 years, it was worth it.

I ask my wife from time to time if she would like a "better (bigger)" ring, but she insists the first one is the best.

Old yellow gold. It was my grandfather's wedding ring and has my grandmother's face sculpted into it. If it had been my dad's mom, it could have made me pretty neurotic, but mom's mom was a sweetie, so it worked out okay.

Interesting to hear everyone's views on the subject.

Mine is a gold design overlay that looks like little interconnecting waves on white gold. Very pretty.

I used to have a gold band, but several years back, I was swimming at the lake and felt something hit my hand and bounce off my knee. I immediately checked my hand and the ring was gone.
My wife got me a titanium band for X-mas.
