Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I got a call last week from the LBS, where the bike has been on layaway since September.
"So, your bike's been here for a while."
"What bike?"
"The Cervelo."
"?"
"The Cervelo R2.5 Chorus."
"Oh yeah. Everything okay?"
"Yes, we were wondering when you were coming to get it."
"See you tomorrow."
"Okay, see you then."

Cervelo R2.5 Chorus
- replaced Cervelo "brakes" with Chorus calipers
- replaced stock wheelset with Mavic Open Pro laced to 32H Chorus hubs
- ~7.25 kg with pedals

Nice!

What's the story behind the phone conversation - did they have it for awhile and never tell you?

Also - take a better picture - poor thing has an image to uphold.

Awsome! Congrats!

"So, you're bike's been here for a while."
"What bike?"
"The Cervelo."
"?"
I do find the above conversation disturbing though... How can you forget about a bike you had been paying for?

Yah, sorry about the picture - my camera's charging right now. As to the phone conversation, I totally blanked when I was talking to the guy. I was thinking "Bike? What's a bike?". It had been a looooooong week. I seem to have an "out of sight, out of mind" thing going on lately. Normally, I can tell you everything about any one of my bikes, especailly after a couple of pints...

Is your 4 legged helper a silver tabby?

Your cat seems to be jonesin' for a ride. Might want to check into one of these. It would like great on your Cervelo!

Really nice bike, not sure why, but i'm surprised that it's that light. I guess I just expected it to be around 18 lbs.

Anyway, enjoy your ride!

I've been told that she's a black tabby, since the black part is what makes up the "tabs". And that cat is no helper - she likes to chew on my bike seats...

I was astounded at the weight. My current roadie is around 10 kg, so this is a serious difference. There's a lot of carbon on the bike, which contributes to the lighter weight. The frame and fork is 100% carbon except for the fork tips and dropouts [somebody correct me if I'm wrong]. The Chorus componentry is pretty light as well.

I know how that goes, I waited 5 months for parts to come in from Italy to fix a Ducati motorcycle. I had been calling every Friday for about 3 months when one Friday the guy says, "yeah it's been fixed and ready to go for a couple of months now." I casually explained that I had been calling every Friday and had been told that it wasn't ready and that I was pissed.

We had a few friends over last night, so we tidied up a bit beforehand. Every single one of them said "Wow, did you spend the entire day cleaning?" I didn't realize I was that big a slob.

Y'know, w/ that color scheme a couple Toronto Maple Leafs stickers wouldn't look out of place. BTW, nice bike!

I'm mostly going to be riding it to Poserville. I haven't raced in years, and until I'm 40+ I won't even entertain the thought. It would make a great race bike for sure, but I love it because it's so damn comfortable. I can't wait to get out on the highway. I might have to wait until the snow melts...

Thanks! I think I'll keep the stickering to a minimum, although a nice HHCMF logo on the top tube would be prety cool...

Congrats - that bike is major hotness! Best looking Cervelo I've yet seen; must've been a long week indeed.

Layaway since September?! Wow, long time. Your bike became outdated while you waited for it!

More steerer spacers? Capital idea! As long as it fits, I couldn't give a rat's ass.

It's not outdated, it's vintage. Waiting months for an R3 and having to build it up with Chorus from scratch would be silly, and then some.

Congratulations. She's a real beauty. Now, if only it will warm up around here...... I'm sure you've alread been out on it. I'm interested in your impressions once you've got a few clicks on it.

I'll be looking for that Cervelo out on highway 1a or 22x sometime this spring.
