V180, how many gears do you use on a typical ride? Just one? Nice pics, very inviting, but that's the proverbial pancake things are flat as.

We took our tandem out for 47 miles today, not quite our first ride this year but the first of any real significance. After this weekend's snow storm most of the snow has melted. Plenty of runoff and puddles though!

Stopped at one of the farm fields where spring plowing is underway. The two tractors are too distant to make out clearly, everything was looking well, and you could smell the rich moist soil as you ride around the fields.

I took a chance and purchased, then installed some pink bar wrap, its much like Velox Tressostar cotton tape. Turned out nicely, IMHO.

Last year, my wife and I started riding our tandem. We're still learning. Yesterday (Sunday), we took our first ride on it of the season. It was short and intense, and we were satisfied. About 5 miles in 31 minutes through rural scenery in Ulster County, NY.

After you've done this for awhile, you get over that. I just make sure the trail isn't busy, and try to leave enough room for folks to get by if they're moving fast.

Of course, I wear a beret when I'm on these shoots - and if I'm questioned, reply "It's Art, mon ami! Comprenez vous?"

Yesterday two friends and I got out for a good ride totaling 50mi and change and, I'd guess, 2500' climbing. 1mi of hike-a-bike after a "wonder what's over this way" decision. It was also the first ride after bumping up from 38mm to 42mm tires on the Raleigh, very nice. Sunday funday

I only snapped one quick photo during a brief rest stop... The red guy on the ground is a Trek 400 w/ some 33mm light knobbies and wide gears. Cool bike.

These are all so wonderful. This is the best hobby/life stle ever...imho. It seriously Spring here in San Antonio. Everything is in full bloom. Rode a quick 15miles--basically downhill with the wind in my face, but then rode back home uphill with the wind at my back. Strong South wind blew me home. Doesn't get any better than that!

I went out for a fairly long and definitely hilly ride. Started in the SF Peninsula (Woodside), climbed over the Santa Cruz Mountains via Old La Honda Road, then dropped down to the coast through Pescadero, San Gregorio, and then returned over the Santa Cruz Mountains again via Tunitas Creek Road. All in all, a little over 50 miles, but 6250 feet of climbing.

The final climb up Tunitas Creek Road is a beast. It starts at the coast, not too steep at the bottom or top, but has a long section in the middle that will wear you out--about 10 miles in all and about 2150 ft of climbing from the coast to the top.

Fabulous ride Randy! Thanks for posting. It brings back fond memories of my days on The Peninsula in the early seventies. The last time I rode Tunitas Creek Road it was still gravel. Any gravel left?

I'm thinking about commuting to work on my Schwinn High Plains this summer so I took a test run this evening. Even though the morning commute will be 5 miles uphill all the way I can look forward to coasting most of the way back home at the end of the day!

Today I commuted on my 1980 Fuji Royale - turned Japanese City Bike (Toshi Baiku). After work, I rode down by the Mississippi River to watch the sun set over the bluffs. This shot was taken during that "golden hour" before dusk.

I am riding my more modern bike (Cannondale Cadd 5) to get in shape to ride my beloved vintage bike (Paramount) in the mountains. This morning I was up on the Skyline Drive in the Blue Ridge Mountains, putting in in eight miles before sunrise, altitude changes up and down a couple times from 2100 to 2450 or so on that stretch.

What a gorgeous time to ride, no traffic, stars winking out and the sky starting to lighten. In the photo, the lights in the valley below are about 10 miles away, and down about 1500 feet. The new front and rear lamps I have (Bontrager) have revolutionized riding in the dark.

I got out for another nice ride today despite the weather. I'm calling this ride To Hell & Back, since I went to see the devil, aka Mt. Diablo. I'd been up this mountain once before as a spectator for a Tour of California stage, but the last km or so was closed that day. So, today was the first time I made the summit. Depending on where you consider the start, the climb up Mt. Diablo (from the north) is about 12 miles and gains about 3,650 feet to the summit at elevation 3,849 feet. I was still feeling a bit worn out from my long ride the other day (see above) and kept pondering excuses to turn around, but the closer I got the more motivated I was to press on. I started the ride in the rain from my home in Berkeley, went over the east bay hills and made my way to the devil. It was a steady drizzle most of the day, though the precipitation increased to a steady rain as I ascended Mt. Diablo. A storm front is coming in today, and the winds were quite fierce at the top. I normally relish in descents, but the way down was no reward. On top of the cold, wet conditions, the gusts were knocking me several feet off my line sometimes, especially coming around an exposed cliffside corner. Out & back, a tough 73 miles and 6,943 feet of climbing in total. I made it to hell and back, and managed to keep my soul. I'm beat though.

^Thanks. I do like the seat stay pump mounting option. Obviously a different (shorter) pump. However, I should have stuck with the Zefal under the top tube today, instead of the Silca by the seat stay. When it's raining, the water fills up the handle! That reminds me, I should go empty it out.

Yup. It was quite something. That's a venue in the middle of the woods, at the Rail Trail Cafe in Rosendale, NY. My wife has performed there, too.
