It is likely the Squadra then but still a great frame.

Thank you for your quick response! It's an SLX frame with the oval downtube. I'm in the UK and as far as I know it was a UK bike, sponsor or team bulk buy seems likely as I had been told it was a race/team frame by the seller some years ago. Its a wonderful frame out on the road, but the stays have suffered over the years.

^ We never had SLX SuperSet II frames here in the US. We had SLX for '89 and '90 but after that SBX, which as I understand was another custome design tubeset for Bianchi, came along with the SuperSet II oversized and oval DT.

Hello and welcome to the forums. It looks like you have a 1985 Nuovo Alloro a great riding and great entry level racer.

Well it is an Italian built model from 1985 as that was the only year this tubing was used.

Nuovo Record RD

OH someone changed the brakes.

Hey everyone, I was hoping that I could get a little help identifying this frame I just got. I got it for free from a friend in Boston, he had trash picked it a few years back, and had never really done anything with it. As far as I can tell its in good shape, no cracked welds, no real rust, and everything is true, just some scratched up paint. Im planning to fix it up for a nice riding around bike, but I'm curious as to how old it is, and the make and model. Hopefully I took pictures of the right parts. https://imgur.com/a/NiVRqHH

Thanks for your help! This frame is a little small for me and I'm looking to sell it to a friend. Any idea what a fair price would be?

Hello The Formula 2 frame set was used on a lot of frames in '86, '87, and '88. Is the Bianchi actually embossed on the stay caps? That would make it a '86 or '87. The actual model is harder to determine without some the of the original components.

When you say stay caps, do you mean the bits on the top of the seat stays? Because yeah, the logo is engraved in the metal. But yeah unfortunately all I have is that front derailleur, I cant even seem to find a full serial number, and the sticker is too torn up to know if it said anything about the tubes. Thanks for the help though!

Hello and welcome to the forums. Any pics? @T-Mar might know but I need a few more details. Is there anything stamped on the dropouts? What is the bottom bracket threading?

yes the tops of the seat stays. Sadly narrowing it down to a few years and a 4 or 5 models is as close as we can get without the original parts.

The serial number is consistent with a 1984, Japanese manufactured frame but there's nothing coded into the S/N to tell you the model.

Dropouts are the part of the bike where you mount the rear wheel. The bottom bracket shell is where the pedals are mounted.

I found your pics and with T-Mars help I think I found it. You have a teal blue '84 Sport SS, assuming the brakes and shifters are original to the frame.

The serial number won't tell us the model but the format is consistent with the entry level models we see that are manufactured by Chiorda in Italy. However, we'll need pictures for corroboration. Ignore the 10 post rule. While they won't appear in this thread, the pictures should post to a gallery album where members can view them.

Serial number indicates 1988. Formula II tubing was used 1986-1988. Bianchi logo decal style is 1988-1989. So, everything points to a 1988 model.

Thanks Tmar for the info. I noticed the unfortunate paint spider web cracking on this frameset. Similar to my 88 Giro it led me to believe its a year 88'.

They were in the '89 Bianchi USA catalog with a 105 kit but I don't recall them being offered here in '88

My Newbie obsession project, Bianchi Minimax

Hi cycling peeps.

unfortunately I cannot attach pictures or a link

I recently purchased a Bianchi Minimax due to arrive this week from eBay/Italy. This project is a nostalgic endeavor. Itís meaningful as this is the era when I began racing road bikes.

Mostly Iím curious of its year and origin. Iíd like the components to represent the frame date as accurately as possible. Itís pretty rough but it might just need an overhaul, frame detailing, headset and saddle.

Iíve spent hours looking up the serial number, model year, catalogs from Bianchi and Campagnolo... and although Iíve found some info thereís lots of conflicting information. Iím thinking this was a ďminimax Ď91Ē frame purchase that took previous model year Campy ďc record Ď88Ē I believe.

Hereís some info that might help: Sticker on chainstay ďCostruita nel reparto corsaĒ. Bb shell is stamped Bianchi on nondrive side. Bianchi paint signature on rear toptube drive side.

SPECSó
frame: Bianchi Minimax serial A.1700 on the bb
size: 54 stamped on the bb
fork: Columbus EL
seat post: Campy Record 27.2
headset: Shimano 600(replacing w/ C-Record)
crank: Campy Record 170 39x53
brake/levers: Campy Delta
shifters: Campy Record friction
rear derailleur: record version? 7speed
front derailleur: record
wheels: Mavic hubs, SUP rims
freewheel: Regina 7 speed
saddle: unknown(replacing with model year race)
chain: unknown
pedals: campy toe clip

Thank you in advance for any support,

AlexZBike
