Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What was the 351? Special event or just for fun?

No, because if I had an elevator to work and home, I'd probably not ride!

I live at the top of a 600' climb, and work at the top of a 750' climb. Plus I do the GMR ride (Glendora Mountain Road) on July 4th, and that's a good 4,000'. So, that helps. Also helps that I like to climb, I guess.

After a short ride tomorrow, I should finish the year with about 4,350 miles. I focused a lot on shorter efforts/races this year and look forward to returning my focus to some endurance riding next year.

After reading the numbers here, it's official. I am small and flaccid.

Thanks for playing, everybody.
Best of luck in 2024.

I now have numbers, I had to do some maths. And then I realised Strava lets you set annual elevation and time goals.

Distance: 11330km
Elevation: 116738m (382998ft, I should have done the extra 2)
Time: 394hr

I don't count trainer mileage but outside this year at 11,480 miles. Strava has more but I think it counted some trainer mileage I put in wrong. I still keep a hand diary that records my miles running and riding. I am/was a runner first and foremost, but dystonia has taken my ability away to run unless I can hold on to the rails on a treadmill. Most I ever road in a year. I am slowing down though in average pace age is creeping up.

I am hoping if all goes well, I soon will have more miles riding a bike than running. After 42 years my running legs have gone 85,000 miles and strava has me at around 79,000 riding miles. Being retired the last 5 years helps in the riding time department.

It does if you’re talking about the size of your rubbers.

Okay, I am done for the year:
6,232 miles.
(All of it outdoors, i.e., actual distance moving through space.)

For the data nerds, this is 368 fewer miles than I rode last year, but only 334 fewer miles than my average annual distance over the last 18 years.

I thought it was more about frequency , hence this thread....
Combination of road and trainer= 7000 miles. I stayed on the trainer today until I reached my goal. Whew! I find the trainer much more brutal than the road, it's like you're always going uphill

My trainer workouts tend to go downhill. Almost made 6000 at 5730, with a 255,000’ gain, but keep it between you and me.

I'm pretty happy with my 2,848mi in 200hrs with 114,000' of elevation. More than double last year. All outdoor in America's northeast. 390 of those miles were 10mph bike share with the rest being a mix of commuting, training, club rides, and a handful of day-long tours.
