Who will paint my bike?
I'm looking for someone in So Cal (Ventura to San Diego) that paints CF and where I don't have to mortgage my house in order to get it done. I'm willing to disassemble the bike and deliver just the frame and fork. For the record the bike would be virtually brand new. Everything I'm finding so far is scarring me. Should I start to include shops that do motorcycle paint?
I understand that if I want a professional job I will have to pay for it. I just don't see how some of these places are showing $900 - $1500 for a single color. I'm not entering it in a show or hanging it on a wall, I will be riding it daily.

I think Joe Bell, just outside San Diego, still refinishes framesets.
His outfit does great work, but you're right that a top craftsman charges a pretty penny.
Or, you can take a stab at a motorcycle or auto painter. It's your money.

A automotive painter, outside California, charges anywhere between $75 to $200 an hour, depends on how good, reputed, and busy he is, so you are paying him for a day or day and a half for painting. The cost of living in California is the highest in the US, you could image them charging even higher hourly rates, in order to pay their monthly bills and make a living out of their profession.
If you can disassemble all the bike parts and assemble them back, you may very well consider sanding, priming, and painting by yourself.

I would bet that prepping a CF frame for new paint is a fairly time-consuming process, and requires some knowledge and experience to not mess things up. Most of that cost is probably labor. It seems to me that this is something I would want to make sure gets done correctly.

Find a body shop that specializes in Corvettes and they may do it for you. Modern Corvettes have fiberglass and CF parts so they'd have the knowledge of what needs to be done. Or find a shop that does general repairs on Corvettes and ask them for a recommendation to a body shop. Just an idea.

Try calling Pro Bike Supply in Newport Beach. They don't paint but they seem to have a network of craftsmen. They're near Hoag Hospital.

He did great work on my new 2017 Della Santa (SLX steel tubes), but I don't know what experience he has in painting CF.
His prices appear to be reasonable.
