Painting Predicament!

Hi there, I have had my bike powder coated and am in a predicament on how to proceed with painting the front small area above the chrome lugs.

I would like to paint it an ivory while but not sure of the best way to proceed. It is smooth and ready to go. Would you suggest masking all areas off and applying a brush or spray primer and then brush or spray final top coat followed by clear? I have acquired the original head badge, which is a foil decal. Would you apply the clear and then decal or clear over the decal?

Thanks very much for all the advice.

That is the head tube as typically described.
Yes, mask it off with the best fresh masking tape you can find.
Also, paint does not like to stick to chrome so sanding it carefully to avoid the lugs is worthwhile.
Primer, color and possibly clear depending on the paint. Spray, don't brush.

Thanks for the reply. Is there a reason spraying is recommended over brushing such a small area?

Campoli-

Unless you get the paint viscosity and application technique perfect, brushing will leave streaks and brush marks in the paint surface. You can use masking and a spray bomb but an air brush would probably work better for such a confined area. One real advantage of spraying is that if you clear coat the head badge, you can mist on the first couple of coats and allow them to flash dry thus sealing the art work and ink/paint onto the badge before the gloss coats for the paint. Looks good so far though.
