Monoprice sell bike wheels? Who knew?
Monoprice more well know for cheap HDMI cables and AVI equipment, apparently now sell carbon road bike wheels:
50mm Carbon Clincher Wheelset featuring Sapim CX-Ray Spokes - Monoprice.com
Obviously they're just reselling Chinese carbon wheelsets, and they could probably be got cheaper from the source, but still, $800 carbon clinchers from a US retailer is pretty rare, right?

No idea. Apparently they started selling these back in April. They also have CF seatposts and handlebars. The handlebars will look familiar to anyone who's browsed CF handlebars on Alibaba or Ebay:

Very interesting.
I respect Monoprice, never had an issue with any of the stuff I purchased from them in the past. If I were going to opt for some non branded carbon, I'd probably choose them over some random ebay/alibaba seller.

Question:
Is $800 a good price for a generic 50mm carbon wheelset?
Follow up question:
Is $800 a good price for a generic 50mm carbon wheelset that weighs the same as brand-name AI wheelsets that are half that price?

Yea this came up last week. They're soooooooooooo going to get in trouble for selling chinese generic look-a-likes of the 3T Aeronova handlebar. It is one thing when it is a no-name seller based in China selling via EBay...but when a legit online merchant does it, it causes problems.

I suspect this was a test run by Monoprice to test the bike market. Considering they aren't restocking the sold items (used to have an 80mm and 30mm carbon wheelset), I suspect this was a trial run and once the stock is sold, they're done.

Still, breaking handlebars while riding your bike doesn't sound all that pleasant, so I'm more likely to splurge on those and buy from a reliable source.
