Home from MD Anderson
Hello folks. We got to come home Saturday after 30 radiation treatments and 6 chemo sessions. It was so good to come home. I don't think I've ever been this homesick in my life. My family members took turns coming down and staying with me during my treatments. My wife was there for the first and last week. Because we are federal employees my wife didn't have enough leave to stay the whole time. This was also the longest my wife and I have ever been seperated. The biggest issue I have now is swallowing. They radiated close to the trachea so it has shrunk some. That will be dealt with at a later time. Fatigue is a problem now as well. That should start getting better next week. I was able to ride until the last week I was there. I just didn't have the energy for it. I've got a pretty strange looking sunburn . There were a lot of people there that were burned far worse than I am. I gob back the 22nd of this month for another scan (for a different cancer) and at that time I will get a large dose of chemo. Three weeks later I will get the same thing. Then we wait 3 months to scan the lung and see if we have killed the cancer. I would like to thank everyone here for their kind words, support, and prayers. I spent a lot of time on this site while I was in Houston and it really helped pass the time. Again thank you all. Layton.

Welcome home! Glad you were able to ride for most of it. I'll bet you were the darling of the radiation oncology department for it.

I wish you a speedy recovery and thousands of road miles ahead of you. How was your experience at MD Anderson? We were just informed in San Diego that Scripps health care just entered a partnership with them. I heard they are number one in the nation.

Can't begin to say enough good things about them. With the amount of people they see I still get personal treatment. The hospital has numerous activities for the families and care givers.

Glad to hear you are home man. I'd expect your energy level to go up soon. Watch out for those three week chemo cycles. For me, day 4-7 were the worst, by the end of the third week I was feeling human again
