Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Specialized S works vs S works 6 shoe

For people who tried the new S works 6 shoe did you go with the same sizing as the 2015 model? I want to order the 2015 model on ebay as they are discounted but they offer no returns. I like the s works 6 shoe but I can't justify paying $400 for shoes. Currently wearing Sidi Genius fit in a size 43, but I need something that provides a more narrow fit. Any advice would help.

Same shoe manufacturing size or US shoe size? Sidi and specialized are different by one size

I can't speak to the SIDI's, but I've got S-works road shoes in 2014, 2015, and now 2016 models and wear the same size across all. The toe box is pretty similar on all, but they totally redesigned the heal section for 2016 and it's much tighter/narrower.

Thanks this is really helpful. I just tried on the 2016 shoes and i fit a 42. I was concerned about the toebox as they said the 2016 model is slightly wider. Is there a break in period? Do they flex out a bit?

I don't notice the 2016 being wider in the toe box, but they are brand new and my 2015's probably have 8k+ miles on them. I don't remember the 2015's really changing fit over time in the toe box, but they were never tight to begin with. I find them all fairly roomy up front, which I like.

One more thing - the jury is still out for me whether I like the new heal or not. They are much harder to get into without scrunching socks, etc., but I think I like them while riding. Still early. Anyway, you should know that the 2015's don't "grab" your heal like the 2016's. I'm not sure if one is better than the other, just an observation.

I noticed the same thing when trying on the shoes. Seemed quite annoying get the shoes on but it really locks in the heel which is nice. I'm going to go on a limb and order from. Thank you for your help again!

I've also got both and agree with everything gr wolf said. Both are same size. The difference is in the wider toe box, which really isn't that much, and the tighter heel fit. The tighter heel which also goes up higher in back gave me a little problem after six months or so of riding. My right Achilles started to get sore after long rides. I switched from red SPD-SL cleats with a 1 degree float to yellow and that seems to take care of it. I think the red cleats held my foot too firmly and my foot was fighting back trying to move the heel around more.

One more note/correction - I just looked at my 2014 shoes and it looks like Specialized changed size/scale between 2014 and 2015. My 2014's are size 46eu and size 13us. My 2015's and 2016's are both size 47eu and size 13us. So, the US sizing is the same across all 3 years, but the EU sizes are different between 2014 and 2015. Weird, but they all fit the same.

Do you normally need to replace expensive shoes each year or is it a fashion thing?

2016 is slightly wider and has a bit more room in the toe box.

Combination of fashion, wear, wrecks, and smell. If you looked at or smelled my shoes after a year or so, you would not want to wear them either.

The only wider part is in the tox box. It's a little wider and slightly taller.

I love my Specialized shoes. A caution though. They seem to change sizing from year to year for some reason. I bought Touring Elite's in a size 43.5 which translated to a 10.5 a few years ago. When I went to replace them, I found them to be discontinued but luckily found an LBS with a left over pair. The 43.5's were now size 10.25 and too small. I just bought the 2FO Clipltes in a 44 which they size at 10.6.

I know I'm talking a different model than the OP but...

I personally would never buy shoes I didn't try on.
