Odd topic: Veins.....in feet and ankles
I have been cycling in the fairer months here in the midwest for years. Its my favorite thing to do.
THis year it has been warming up and i have been out several times getting my knees and legs settled in for the season. I have noticed that my ankles and feet have a LOT of veins popping out. More than i can ever remember. Not really old man gross veins either.....well kind of. Im in my mid 40s but more so, fit veins. I dont think that i ankle my pedal stroke but maybe i do.
I take the extra ankle and foot veins as a good thing. I assume it is. Has anyone else noticed this? Hey as long as it isnt a sign of heart diesease...im happy.

There are a lot of compression stockings available in varying degrees of compression. I would suggest, if you have pain associated with the veins, to see your doctor. I know a few gents that are in great heart health, but have vericose vein issues that they treat with compression stockings.

I guess what i am saying is they dont appear to be old man veins but........in shape guy veins. THey are quite impressive. I hope they dont turn into the former but i am betting that is not avoidable on a long enough time line.

Can be mostly aesthetic (often caused by exercise and hot weather) but could be something more serious. See a licensed Doc and get em checked out.

I've had them since I was 40 or so. Its bad genes since my mother had vericose vein surgery. Mine are getting more pronounced now but it isn't a problem yet except that they aren't pretty but neither am I.

Veins are good. Don't worry, be happy. If you were having pain or leg/ankle swelling, then an evaluation by a healthcare provider
would be in order.
would be in order.

It is called vascularity and can be considered a sign of fitness. Low body fat is one of the causes of the veins prominence. See: Are Veiny Arms a Sign of Fitness, and How Do You Get Them?

If the veins are tumescent only when you're standing, especially first thing after getting out of bed or sitting up, and "deflate" to become less noticeable after awhile or when you sit, it's probably normal. I'm 62 and my leg veins pop like that. It's not varicose veins. I've just lost some body fat, have fewer problems with edema in my legs, and have better cardiovascular fitness. Veins and arteries in young and health folks are almost like balloons, remarkably elastic yet able to resume a normal "deflated" state when not under stress.
Some family and friends do have varicose veins and the two don't resemble each other much at all. Others may have arteriovenous fistulas, bunched and unnatural looking veins that directly join arteries without going through capillaries.
If the veins stay puffy and feel unnaturally rigid or painful, there may be a problem. Get it checked out YESTERDAY. Don't wait. If it's a clot it could lead to serious complications.
