A week late... We hit 58.1 miles with 2887' climbing with some hike-a-bike. It was the first real ride on my Woodrup and it was great.

Still honing in on the fit before tape.

I looked through the linked thread and noticed this route preview picture:

It was labeled "when beavers attack." I guess the beavers are to blame because we've had less than half an inch of rain this month and yet portions of the trail were flooded just like this.

So yesterday on a short ride on my Peugeot on my way home, I got hit by a truck going a low rate of speed. 2 cracked ribs, one more rib broken all the way through, bruised lung and a broken lumbar to top it off. Love hemophilia. . . lol, does a body good! No rides for me any thyme too soon.

No rides today - my wife had surgery to take a plate and 8 screws out of her repaired ankle (broke it last January). So, I'm slaving in the kitchen today. I did get a little bit of derailleur adjustment in, though, on a couple of bikes.

Yikes! I can certainly sympathize. I got a titanium upgrade to my right femur in March 2017. Is your fracture bad enough to require surgery? (I'm hoping not, if it wasn't immediately obvious after the crash.)

Get well soon.

We spent the Thanksgiving weekend driving in cars and sitting inside too much and eating too much. The sky was overcast, and much of the weekend was cold. Yesterday (Sunday), we got some sunlight and warmer temperatures. I put the new old Brooks Pro Womens (S) saddle on the back of the tandem for my wife to try. It's a no-go. After riding a few hundred feet, we turned around and put the original saddle back on. She'll try it once more on her single bike and also experiment with the nose angle, but it may not work.

We rode 11 miles round trip. First, we rode to one of our favorite lunch spots, and then we rode to the food store, and then back to the house. The scenery was lovely. It's so nice to be in sunlight, even if briefly, and it's so nice to move the body. And I'm loving the new gearing on the tandem.

Here are our barns after the ride. The barn on the left is where the tandem sleeps.

Swapped the crankset on my Trek 716 to a SunXCD with Velo Orange 46/30 chainrings. Much more pleasant to ride!

The old gearing was 52/42 with a 13-24 cassette in the back. I really love this old UniGlide hub because it is almost completely silent when coasting, but UniGlide cassettes are pretty pricey, and regardless, I only have one chain whip, so in order to get the gearing to something more reasonable I swapped the crankset. Of course, spending ~$200 in order to avoid changing out a cassette seems a little ridiculous, but I like the close ratios on the back and I wanted to try a "subcompact double".

Very slow 12 miles on a windy fall day. I also forgot to lower my saddle since I went to longer crank arms on the newer crank, but I can't blame my lack of energy and lackadaisical pace on that.

And boy, does my touch up paint look awful.

Professor Andrew pinged me, noting that Sunday should be clear, and reminding me that this might not be true for some time in the PNW. It was cold when we started and stayed cold, but a 45 mile ride up the ridge we call Bald Peak was in order.

Starting in low lying fog we eventually climbed above it. A few higher hills could be seen poking out of the sea of fog.

I was in bad form that day, so this was my typical view while riding.

Home is good! Healing can happen at home. Give it time which is sometimes the best medicine. I understand the crazy feeling when you can’t ride.look to the future years you will have when you come back stronger.

Yesterday was very windy and the earth was/is still saturated from a decent amount of rain the previous day. At some point during the work day this tree toppled across the South County Trailway so up and over went the bike and I. I didn’t take that route today but I am pretty sure they have cleared it by now.
