I am in.
I can cover a lot of places in the French or Swiss alps. If I am not mistaken there is only one other BF member in France - gmason. It's a lot of ground to cover if the next relay is in London England.

So is there a google maps guru out there that could show what areas of the globe are covered? Might make it a little easier to figure out what still needs to be covered...
That is if anyone is still doing it...

Hey, I couldn't sleep and just noticed this thread. I love the idea and PM'd my entry. I see three other Texas riders have been on the thread so you can add me on the Great Plains around Lubbock.

So....I just picked up this thread today and LOVE the idea, and would like to be part of it. Is it still going? Or are we still just talking about it? Let's spread the word to everyone we know. There have to be dozens (hundreds. thousands?) of people like me who'd love to do it but haven't even heard about it.
And it seems there ought to be some way to mesh it with the phenomenal dispersion of geocaching. Let's rock and roll!

Maybe walk before run. The route of the 1988 Race Across AMerica went very close to Joes' area. Sorry to lkeave out overseas members but. . . the 88 route took HWY 50 thru Nevada, jumped to HWY 40 near Highland, UT, then Denver, St. Louis, Columbus, W.VA., and DC. Another goodie was So Cal to NYC; flatter. Koffee, for fun I am going to start sticking pins in a US map of volunteers and see if a route suggests itself. Back in a few days.

My, that didn't take too long. I only put pins in for people who said they would ride, one per. Highland, we have a problem. A hairy big gap between Window Rock, AZ and Lubbock, TX. After that it goes on the close order of 150 miles per rider until we get to Alexandria, VA and the east coast. If every volunteer rode the same amount then 40-50 miles each; theoretically. We may be better off forming our own RAAM relay team. How about we figure what it would cost each of us and send the amount in small unmarked bills to Joe G.
(Ummm, I was the organizer for the Front Range Century in Colorado one year when we had 2000 riders and I have crewed in RAAM twice.)
Say, Let several individuals on the west coast, like me, ride east as much as we want then post what we did. People in Utah and Arizona could ride towards the next state east and post. Etc, Etc. A mass movement sweepng across the continent then onward. I like the idea of Joe Gardner being first and last. Does he ever have time to ride?

I have done the map when this idea first come out and followed it updated it through out. Why it has not become a sticky thread I do not know, its only then that it becomes useful, since then its lost down the endless threads corridoor so I have kind of lost intrest in updating it. I even asked it to be a sticky thread but never got a reply.
it lives in the link below

Maybe if we have a route we can rally people to ride parts in their area?

[QUOTE=ken cummings]Ah, I got URL invalid when I tried it. Sounds much better than the pushpins in a paper map I used. Please give us the link.
It does not work as a link for some strange reason, but if you copy
https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...ht=riders+list
and paste in the address it goes straight to it. Check it out if it becomes a sticky then I can carry on working with it , otherwise the plan becomes defragmented...

Is there a Frappr page linked up for this adventure?
That'd be the easiest way to get everyone's local on one map, then let peeps link up from there.

I like this idea but it does not seem to be happening . We need someone to organize I think the charity angle could work .how about cycle around the world for clean air ? We culd use a gps to track the progress on line We need sponsers. And I think we should have less riders may be two or three per country.I did a ride across Canada 4,600kms on a downhill bike last summer from Ottawa to Whistler British Columbia Canada for cancer research. And I am looking for an other event This might work if every one gets it together. I would be willing to organize and promote. There are a lot of logistics to work out . Lets get going. KAMIKAZIKEN KEEP YOUR WHEELS BETWEEN THE DITCHS.

Sorry for not living up to my commitment, but I need to concentrate on things at home for now.

Wow, it's been a long time since I was on this site. I made an entry on p8 about state dept travel warnings. I see the item is now in Ohio? I have moved on from Haiti and am now posted in Kabul, Afghanistan. I have 6 months left in country. I don't know how serious this thing has become, but if you manage to get the thing to the border in Iran or Tajikistan I might be able get it and drive it back to Kabul, where I could do the "road" miles on my trainer. I know it's not exactly the real thing, but it beats trying to ride a bike wearing a tactical vest with 60 lbs of gear and an assault rifle. I could then get it on a military hop to the Pakistan border. Yes, I am somewhat serious. Congrats on getting this thing off the ground, and if it makes it to this side of the world drop a line to TypinskiMT@state.gov if it's in the next 6 months.
