FS: 59cm Motobecane Le Champion 531 Framset w/ Campy HS and Cockpit
Getting ready to move, so I need to start clearing out some projects I just don't have the time for.
First up is this very nicely made 1979 Motobecane Le Champion. Frame and fork are full Reynolds 531 tubing with chromed fork crown and Campagnolo tips, forged rear dropouts and Bocama Competition cutout lugs. Overall the frame is in good condition for it's age, no rust but there are a few paint chips, tire rub on the NDS chainstay etc. Note, the markings you see on the NDS side of the top tube is just sticker residue that has been since removed. The most significant flaw is a small indention on the back side of the seat tube about half way up that appears to be the result of a hamfisted mechanic clamping it in a stand. It doesn't affect the structural integrity at all, and looks like it would roll out pretty easily if you had the mind to. As always pics do a better job of showing condition than I can explain, so please look at the album below for details.
I believe this would have been sold as a 23" frame, measurements are:
59cm ctc seat tube 61cm ctt
59cm ctc top tube
18cm head tube
~43cm chainstays
I am asking $165 shipped CONUS for the frame, fork, Campagnolo headset and the original cockpit which features a 90mm Phillipe Pro Stem and Bars, Campagnolo Nuovo Record Levers and stitched leather (rubber?) bar wrap. See pics for details and let me know if you have any questions. Cheers!

Cool bike, and my size. What does the frame/fork weigh with the Campy GS headset? And the bar wrap looks like the rubber Hutchinson stuff. Is that the case? I'd never seen that with Campy brake levers before.

Ooof. It hurts my soul this is probably about 2cm too large for me ctt. This is one of those bikes that - 10yrs ago - I'd have bought and forced myself to try to fit into it. These days, I know better. Awesome price for what it is. You could probably pull more than half the ask price on the headset and cockpit alone, considering it's shipped price.

@Brewsmith - Interesting crimps on the chain stays. Do you know why there is that one on the NDS?

I am not familiar with this vintage. Are the chain stays round? Is the crimp only on the inside?
