Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Are the frames and wheels together worth ~ $1000? (This is a serious question. I am not very well aware of nashbar branded products).
How'd you get that price? It's $616 for that groupset right now. The 5% off option takes off like $25.

616 is the price for the direct mount brakes. I do not believe this frame requires that. The cost of the other groupset is ~ $550. I apologise for using the wrong numbers. After the coupon the price becomes $525 (In my case they gave me a refund on the cost of the cassette as they sent me a 11-25 instead of 11-28 which was originally ordered and they were out of stock of the 11-28 => hence the 470 number). Even if you add those 50 bucks you still have ~$950. The RS 11 wheels are available from UK for ~120 bucks. I am not sure if a no name carbon frame is worth ~$800.

Only if you want the warranty.

You can score a very nice used frame for $800

Anyone have a competitive cyclist coupon or something? I'm eyeing a pair of shoes, but any discount would really help.

Thanks

No problem. IMO these have always been a steal, but under $3 for a cage that won't drop a bottle and weighs 57g is awesome!

Backcountry.com is doing a 20% discount on items already on sale. They have the HED Ardennes Plus LT wheelset on sale.

HED Ardennes Plus LT Road Wheelset - Clincher | Backcountry.com

Given the extra discount one can pick up the wheelset for $479.20.
Two important things:
1) HED sells the wheelset with tubeless rim strips but backcountry doesn't send the wheelset with these strips. If you call and talk to them, they will throw in the stan's strips for no extra charge.
2) You will see a shipping charge of $29 once you add it to cart. Call them and they will be able to provide free ground shipping. The only caveat is that the wheelset is on backorder, so one will have to wait a bit to finally get them setup.

I got the same message this morning. I was able to access it till yesterday. I picked up the wheelset 2 days ago and it shows up in my order history as well. Interesting enough the wheelset is available at competitivecyclist.com (HED Ardennes Plus LT Road Wheelset - Clincher | Competitive Cyclist), a subsidiary of backcountry.com. Maybe worth giving the guys at backcountry.com a call. Note that the guy placed the final order through competitivecyclist.com since its a bicycle related product.

STAGES Power Meters are now $180 (or so) less on their site. The 105 unit I was looking at was $699. It is now $529. They rolled out a new design and rolled out lower prices at the same time.

Wish powertap will follow suite and drop the prices on the P1 pedals. Great movement in powermeter pricing none the less. First P2M and now stages.

The pedals have been out for a few months, don't expect a price drop any time soon. The chainrings are coming out though and they are cheaper.

Very true. I wish the chainrings were compatible with the Shimano 4 bolt pattern. Alas they are not.

As we head toward the cooler months (those of us in the northern hemisphere anyway), much talk of warmer clothing.
Picked up remnants of NOS bib tights.. decent value and I like my Sugoi RS Pro bib knickers; I hope these fit and construction are of similar quality.

I bought one. Have the ergonova now, like the oval top section, don't like the ergo drops, so the tornova should be a good fit for me. Pics to follow

I have the Tornova and I really like it compared to the Ergonova. Oval top section is great, drops are good, and I really like the junction between the tops and the hoods.
