Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Doesn't look like it's for the pair, price is per side. Choose the pair option from drop down list and price goes up to USD$129.00

20% off Yakima and Whispbar until 11/28.

I have NOT compared pricing, so don't blame me if it's all cheaper elsewhere. I'm just passing on the info I got.

Lately, because of the sharp pound-vs-dollar drop post-brexit.

Mebbe Donald can fix that (it's just a joke, don't ban me to P&R!)

This has little to do with the exchange rate, and moreso about distribution in the USA. I had a friend who worked at a wholesale bike parts distributor, and I could buy from him at wholesale, and I noticed that the UK sellers had LOWER prices than their wholesale catalog on a lot of things, especially saddles and Shimano components. Can't explain the saddles so much except that any of the "Selle..." companies are Italian, so no taxes/VAT, but I can explain the reason Shimano is so expensive in the USA. About 3-4 years ago Shimano went from about 20 distributors in the USA to only 6. Those 6 control the market, and it drove prices higher with less competition. Your local bike shop probably pays the same or more for components as you can ordering directly from the likes of ProBikeKit, Ribble or Wiggle. Simply put, those big website/stores in the UK sell throughout Europe, and get their products direct from Japan a LOT cheaper than the distributors and/or bike shops in the USA do.

And I guess a bike shop can't source from those places because they need too much volume? Or Shimano forbids them from (re)selling wholesale to the US? And Shimano probably refuses to deal direct with US vendors because of agreements with the distributors?

Good deal. I got a pair of those this fall. I like 'em, these are their lighter weight model, and great for in-between Spring/Fall days.

Shimano is often cited, but same holds true for Campy and SRAM (a supposed US company). Same holds true for mundane things such as chains and tires. Holds true for wheelsets of many brands. Anyway, I don't think that whatever causes the pricing differences, will be found in individual company histories.

I purchased a bunch of stuff this weekend from Performance Bicycles since their Thanksgiving/Black Friday/whateveryouwantttocallit sale is pretty good.

I have my eye on a few more things, hoping there is a good Black Friday sale. Need a baselayer for an upcoming cold weather trip.

Arc'Teryx A2B Commuter Jacket - about $125 @ REI for the rest of today only if you use the code WINTER20.

This is a super high end garment at the lowest price I've seen. If you know what these are and have been lusting after one in blue then this is your chance.

Sorry I didn't see this and post it sooner.
