Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I thread my cable through my helmet when I lock my bike. When I left the office this afternoon I noticed one in my helmet as I was about to put it on. They are everywhere in places.

A postdoc of mine and his wife both got faculty jobs at UT and are moving down this Fall. He’s a big MUPster. I’ll be sure to tell them!

Yes. Hope daughter will bring her Icelandic man over for the height of it, but she might be spooked. She was, like, 12 last time.

I remember an X-year in PA. Zillions of them, black bodies and red eyes. They were all over the Battlefield at Gettysburg.

So I'm in the kitchen, busy but feeling good about preparing a healthy meal for the family: I've got some veggies roasting in the oven, I'm chopping more veg that'll be eaten raw, quinoa is simmering, grill is preheating for the chicken (S&P, natch), etc. etc. Little Girl walks in, surveys the work, looks at me and says, "Dad - I'm not going to eat that."

My wife has started shivering when I told her next summer is the “cicada summer”. She can’t stand them.

What would be the recommended glue for mending a separating crabon sole?

My lake mtb shoe soles are starting to separate at the heel. I’ve written Lake to find out what they’d recommend but without any response from them, I’m thinking this weekend I should repair them as I only wear them for commuting.

A cicada landed on one of the kid's sandals last week during our two-family picnic. Everyone was freaked out and didn't want to go near it so, naturally, I picked up the sandal and chased the kids round with it while the screeched like mad.

I blame poor upbringing. Kids these days.

She used to be a pretty adventurous eater, willing to try anything, but she's swung the other way, recently. The boy went through similar phases.

You could take them to a shoe repair person. A friend is hard on cycling shoes and does that. He even has rubber heels put on to make walking easier.
Or you could get Shoe Goo.

Interesting. I'm more adventurous than I used to be, but there are a lot of things I'd miss more than trying new food.

Two of my last three bike rides have caught me out in the rain. Today's was only returning from the bank and the greengrocer. I got soaked nonetheless.

In an effort to speed the flexibility, I broke down and applied some diclofenaco gel a few minutes ago. I actually feel it in there! And the finger tip is not quite as numb as it was. Would the doctors in the house recommend this over prednisolone, or vise versa?
