Shifter boss cover to replace single post down tube shifter mount???

Okay, I am guessing at the title or even the name of such a part. I checked for all kinds of names on the 'Bay and didn't find anything. I tried

I have a new bike with a Suntour LD-3800 Cyclone shifter. (It's not a Symetric shifter it's the 3rd and final Cyclone model though I suspect the bolts might be the same size)

I would like to save this for a rainy day along with the remaining Cyclone goodies and install barcons which I have never done.

The frame has this single boss where the Cyclone shifters sit.

I have seen an adaptor that can screw on here for bikes with "normal" downtube shifters (one shifter boss on each side of the down tube). This adaptor holds the shifter cables against the downtube so they don't sag or flop around.

Does anyone make an adaptor that I am describing that would fit a single boss?

Bikes: Most have two wheels, some have one, some have a very large front wheel and tiny rear wheel.

Just need to cover it?

I see an 8-ball in your future mounted to that, and then ride it with both hands in the air.

Wesley,
Take the shift levers off of the adapter and send them to me, along with the washers for the shift levers, and the holding screws. Then you will have a double post for a set of down tube shift bosses that will hold the bits for a set of downtube stops for your bar-cons. Thanks for the parts, smiles, MH

I need the cover to act as a cable holder if that is the correct term for the shifter cables which will be run from the barcons. Does that make sense? I believe the cables have to have a stop to keep the cables from flopping.

Yes, you keep the cover but send the other stuff to Mad Honk. Put the cable adjusters on the cover and barcon shift away!

Wesley,
You already have one in the old shifter boss! Use the old boss to mount the cable stops for your bar cons. I have an old Fuji frame here that has the same boss on it. The shift levers fit on this boss only, but any shift stop as those you posted earlier will fit on the boss you have. As always hoping you are doing well, Smiles, MH

Sorry but I want to keep the shifters for another build idea (I have the Cyclone front and rear derailleurs that match as well). I just want to use this frame with barcons, if there isn't an easy mod then I'll rebuild with the Cyclone. I can add one of the downtube cable housing parts like you see here (stole the photo from a BF posting, not my bike) I've seen them before with bikes with stem shifters, but it'll leave the post exposed and it won't look right.

Thinking I might have to go back to the Cyclone figured I'd ask here once more.....

Wouldn't the stops in the last pic in the opening post mount to the existing mounting base?

I think you are looking for one of these. This is a Shimano part to mount DT shifters to the aero or B mount from the mid 80's.

VeloBase.com - Component: Shimano #6439807 B-type shifter adapter, 600EX

What I would try first is to mount a pair of *flat back* (versus concave back) downtube cable stops to the shifter mount you have. I did something similar for my Suntour Symmetric shifters that now are bar-end shifters, but my shifter boss is different from yours.

The standard for this type of shifter boss is all over the map for this era, since companies were trying to figure out if this was worthwhile. They decided it wasn’t after a couple of years.

I would at a traditional double cable stop clamp that goes around the downtube and uses the existing braze-on as a stop, then look for a small fan or propeller to fit on the existing bolt to see if it is really "aero" or not (plus it will generate lots of interesting questions that allow you to tell people you are of dutch ancestry and your bike is wind-powered).

There's something.... "fingernails on a chalkboard" about using a band/clamp on an application that was designed for a braze-on component. @noobinsf 's photo illustrates what I was trying to describe earlier, and seems to be the most elegant solution. The "flat back" reference is good clarification.

Take a two or three inch long, half inch diameter section of durable aluminum tubing.
Cut a square shaped ‘C’ section out of the middle the same size as the braze on of your frame.
Drill one hole on each side of the forward facing portion of the tube, same size as your derailleur housing with metal ferrule attached.
Opposite each of those holes, drill a smaller hole large enough for the cable to pass through.
The C section area gets bolted down to the braze on, which keeps it from moving from side to side.
The housing ends get inserted into the forward facing holes, acting as stops.
The cables pass through the tubing and actuate the derailleurs.

Can’t take credit for coming up with this, someone else did it on a Miyata frame owner several years ago and it got passed along to someone else. Might be able to dig up a pic of it, but hopefully you get the idea. Only problem is that they are not adjustable.
