Cycling the Pacific Coast (The Book)

Frequently, cyclists posting in this forum mention or refer to Bicycling the Pacific Coast, the classic Vicky Spring and Tom Kirkendall guide to riding between Vancouver and Tijuana. That (excellent) guidebook is now 35 years old, and seems to have been last updated in 2005.

Consider also this excellent book published in 2017, Cycling the Pacific Coast by Bill Thorness. If you have not heard of it, you can find it here, among other places:

I used Spring and Kirkendall in September 2017 to get from Anacortes, WA to Big Sur, CA and I cannot recall a single miscue and loved the recommended (though not required) side trips. Seems as useful today as it was when it was originally published in 1990 (which is only 29 years ago, not 35).

I think anyone doing the coast should check the California parks website to see if the parks they plan to stop at currently provide hiker biker sites, since they have made some changes.

Before I did that coast, I put all of the Oregon and California state parks that had hiker biker sites into a map on my tablet to help our day to day planning for daily destinations.

I have the Bicycling the Pacific Coast book, and plan to do Seattle, WA to Monterey, CA this Summer. I also have the ACA maps. Bring both? Not sure....
