Today I (v2):
Calamari Marionette Ph.D
i didnt even get 2 miles from my house when i was spinning down a hill, hit a SMALL bump and the chainring snapped as i was on the downstroke, gets lodged on the spider where there used to be a chainring, then the chain dumped off the cog and then got lodged inbetween the cog and the dropout and pulled the whole thing into itself
i got off the bike and laughed, it was so ridiculous and such a huge amount of damage for what actually happened. i immediately just thought about all the **** this bike has been through to have this as the cause for its demise is hysterical to me

What kind of ring was it that failed? Yikes. Concerned.

so melty. that stem looks like a codpiece. i guess thats a brake on the seat tube? sure.
have fun roadies. ill gladly take your classic italian steel bikes when you drop the coin on that turd
it was a 50t Shimano 6400 ring from the 90s, im not entirely sure if it was really my #sickwatts or the ring being "faulty" in some way.
the ring did feel incredibly light and it was aluminum. maybe 90s lightweight aluminum wasnt so good?

Today I finally transferred my fitment to my SS/FG. Now I don't hate riding the thing.

Did you try adding some tension via the bolt? Doing the lacing does provide more stability simply because you are keeping the vertical surfaces from fairing outwards causing the saddle to sag in the middle while sitting. I've got 2 B-17 saddles in which i've completely cut the sides off and they hardly sag even with minimal bolt tightening. Maybe you have a dud seat or something?
Maybe I will sell or trade it to a friend that likes it.

Sounds like a plan
A little but it didn't change anything and the rest of the saddle was fine. The saddle does feel harder since I laced it. I'm just going to ride it because it looks good on the bike. It'll never feel great because the Pro isn't such a good fit for my ass anyway.
Maybe I will sell or trade it to a friend that likes it.

More for looks but my big ass thighs would sometimes get caught in the "wings" of the seat when riding in long pants which was annoying.
Best pic i have right now, you get the idea..

I would not have recognized that as a B17, maybe not even as a Brooks.

Debating selling my Trek as a complete vs frameset.
I'm currently thinking I could save the components for another bike that comes my way. Or I could probably sell the group and frame separately, while keeping the wheels, which are the real highlight of the bike. Decisions are so hard, man.
