Rumors have it ..
Recently someone posted here their local shop recommended the opposite .. they had a post mount frame & road hydro brifters.
so used an MTB Caliper with them, to have the post mount... rather than direct mount the set came with..

I care less about the mounting, what my shop told me was that there was some kind of difference in how the hydraulic pressure was arrived at and the two were not compatible which sounds like a bunch of BS to me. I had the Shimano 105's mounted and have XT Devore levers and I wanted them to bleed them for me and was told it could not be done.

I bet you can. I think for the road discs, the banjo is in the levers and the "olive" end is in the caliper. In the MTB version, the banjo is on the caliper and the olive end is in the lever.

It'll probably work with the appropriate hose, but the modulation may not be as intended and without it being on Shimano's compatibility charts they may feel unsure about guaranteeing it. They both use BH90 and have Servo-Wave so it's probably pretty close, though. I've more frequently seen higher end Shimano road levers mated to XTR race and the like to work with post mount frames. If it's all mounted up it shouldn't be any different to bleed.
