Rode into work today, very warm even at the start, 71 degrees at 5:10 AM. Hoping for some cooler weather soon.

20.8 speed-racer miles on the Tarmac SL. Stopped at SenCen for lunch (that's an everyday occurrence) and promptly made a fool of myself. The right leg of my riding shorts caught in the saddle and I hopped forward but recovered. Leaned the bike at a greater angle, did it again and fell. DUH!
Scrapped the shin, bleed profusely, and the large First Aid kit at SenCen contained nothing useful except band-aids. I'd have done better with the first aid kit from the bike (but I was already inside). Slight injury to the leg, major injury to my pride. I'm fine when riding, it's when I stop that I'm dangerous.

Raining this morning, so no bike commute. But, 10 miles on the Screamer with my favorite stoker after work, before the rain started up again. Lucky timing.

27 miles Thursday morning on the hilly, windy route. Everything else feels like gravy compared with that route. Felt good after being knocked down by a 24-hour bout with cluster headaches Tue-Wed. Hate those things, but at least I know they're usually over within 24 hours or so.

20.4 miles on a cool and overcast day. Tomorrow thru Sunday is supposed to be windy and much cooler temps. Fortunately the wind doesn't get bad until after 10AM, about 2/3 into the ride. The wind coming off the Sierra Nevada mountains can get a bit nasty.

22 miles as a Bike Commuter today. Cool enough for tights/pants and a jacket in the AM.

17.8 miles, the last six of that in pain. There's a sharp right hand U-turn coming off the McCarran bridge onto a ramp leading to the bike path. I'm skittish in slow right turns, a 25mph gust of wind pushed me over into a guard rail, and I didn't kick my right foot out in time. Cleat crash #3.
I've been told that the body accelerates to 18mph from the bike to the ground. Concrete is very hard. I managed to ride the 6 miles to home but getting off the bike and walking into my apartment (up two stairs) was an experiment in controlled pain. My right hip should be black n' blue tomorrow. The bike was stopped, I hit the concrete pretty hard and bounced. Who knew a 70 year-old could bounce.

My back was still sore yesterday, so no ride. Took it really easy this morning and did a slow, 26 mile ride with my wife before the rain started.

No bike commuting today because of rain forecast which was proven accurate by deluge at end of work day. But, no rain on my side of town when I got home so finished September with a measly 2 mile ride - which was 30th Sept day to include a bike ride. Not sure if I have ridden every day of a month before, at least not in the last few decades.

38 miles Friday, between a group ride and the ride to and from. Also stopped to chat awhile with a homeless fellow on a bike to learn more about the challenges and resources for homeless folks in Fort Worth. He's a good guy. Hope his situation improves.

The calendar might indicate Fall but it still feels like Summer with high humidity and the 90'sF. 39 miles on the LBS ride with an extra 29 miles by myself. By the time I got home I was beat up pretty good. 100+ miles & 11,000' of climbing on last Sunday's Six Gap then 82 miles on Tuesday meant tired legs today. Now for a week of R&R before next Saturday's 200 miler. Usually do that on Halloween but my right shoulder joint replacement in 9 days on the 10th will not be good for the road that soon.
Entire state of Florida was very well represented. 12 from our LBS this year and most likely more for next year.

37 miles on the 9th annual Culpeper Cycling Century. Was all prepared for the forcasted rain since we've had drenching rain nonstop for the past three days, and downpours all last night until about 6am, but thank heavens all it did during the ride was mist heavily. Great route, wonderful countryside scenery, super quiet roads (think I could count on 2 hands the number of cars that passed me in the first 20 miles), and excellent SAG support (they were the ones that passed by the most, always with a friendly wave) and rest stops. Met a lot of very friendly riders, and it was fun chatting with various people as I rode along. Bike performed flawlessly and was an absolute joy to ride, still sparkling from the deep cleaning we gave it upon our return from the NC shore.
Now looking forward to the next regional ride in 3 weeks - The Great Pumpkin Ride in Warrenton VA on the 22nd. Will be doing the 48 mile ride on that one. It's pretty close to my own backyard - just 45 minutes south. The route takes place through a lot of the foxhunting territory - which means lovely farms, quiet roads, and beautiful pastoral scenery. Going to have to dig into my warm clothing - there is sure to be a nip in the air for that time of year.

29.25 miles on the Baldwin Rail Trail. Felt great the first half but struggled on the return for some reason. Need to get more miles under my belt.

Rode the annual Withlacoochee Rails to Trails ride this morning. Normally, this is at least a metric, if not a full, century ride with my riding buddies. However, none of them were able to ride today so I did the 50K ride with my wife. It was slow and steady but she did it. Gotta love a woman with determination.

My sweetie and I braved the elements (does anyone ever do anything else with the elements?) and took the tandem out again. 44 miles, home to lunch in Concord. Wet roads, cold-ish temperatures but no active rain.

20 miles. Pleasure riding from house (Aberdeen, WA) to about mile 5 on the East Hoquiam Rd. Felt good, but the runny nose. gotta Google that. Maybe a snot soaker or better yet just a clothes pin. :*)
My Samsung phone app says I burned 840 calories. I hope that's close. How does one fact check that?

I rode in the Withlacoochee Rails to Trails Bike Event yesterday. My original intent was to do a metric century but I met a guy and rode with him. He told me he had a 15 mph pace. The first 32 miles we averaged 18 which was a bit above my normal. But it was early in the day cool, by Florida standards, and no wind.
I was feeling good and convinced my self I could do the full century. By mile 56 the sun was glaring, heat was rising and I hit the wall. I watched my riding partner get more and more distance from me and I turned around. Ended up riding 78 miles. On the saddle for 5 hours and averaged 15.1 mph
The combination of the 90 degree heat and too high a pace did me in. Now I'm itching for another try but I'll look for one in the cooler months.

This morning's forecast called for rain but then an update changed it no rain so I went out for a ride. Met my riding buddy and we set off for a scheduled 60 mile ride. Had to turn around due some deep flooding so ended up with half of our goal by the time we got back to the van. My buddy left so I went and started to do the route again, got about 5 miles out and it started to rain. Turned around and came back to the van for a nice 40 mile ride.

I rode my usual (10 mile R/T) commute this morning, but it was Sunday's ride that was really memorable. I don't know how many miles I covered, but I shot over 60 photographs in the fog around the nearby town of Hastings, MN. Here are three of the best:
It was literally like riding through a dream, with very few people on the path, and the occasional roadie bursting out of the fog in the oncoming lane. One of my best rides of the season.
(apologies for x-posting)
