Vintage Viking any ideas on model or age...???
Any Viking enthusiasts on the site?
Bought a bike cheap on a local advertising site.
A lot of rust on the wheels and some on the frame and forks. There is a Viking decal on the head tube, gold no other colour on the decal. Bike had been badly painted black, when I stripped the black paint off the colours underneath are a sky blue and grey/silver. No numbers on the BB but found the number 61 stamped on the lug on the headtube.
Is there anything in particular that may identify the model/year other than a serial number?
If there is any part of the bike that would help to identify the bike I can take pics and upload.
Any help will be much appreciated.

If it is a Viking, it isn't a Severn Valley.

Thanks, that's one model off the list.
Do you think it's possible that someone put a Viking decal on a different frame.
The head tube lugs look like some of the Viking ones I've seen.
Any ideas about the number on the lugs? I'm thinking it might be something to do with the lugs themselves rather than the bike.

Does the steering tube on the fork have any markings? What diameter does the seat tube take?

The seat tube is 26mm measured with a calipers.
I took some pics of the components to see would it give any clues to the possible age of the bike.
.
The calipers have the number 85 on the back. The number 85 is encircled by numbers 1-9 and a zero with the letters ND. I'm thinking that means 1985 brake calipers, possibly 1985 bike?
Just found some more numbers, a 72 stamp on the head lug and a six digit number on the inside of the rear dropouts.
From what I've read on a classic viking website the numbers on the lugs refer to tube angles.
Haven't found a model that has 72/61 degree angles though.

The 72/61 markings could refer to the head tube angle and frame size.
I have one of the early Lambert built Vikings, but it has little in common with your example.

There isn’t much info on the Vikings made in Northern Ireland. I have a Viking frame with campy dropouts from that era that I’ve never gotten around to building.

The 61 is on the lower head tube lug, and indicates the angle between the head tube and down tube. If there is a number on the upper head tube lug, that would be the head tube angle (assuming a horizontal top tube which is likely in this case).
Edit: and looking back at the photos, I think I see a 72. Seat tube angle would be stamped on the seat lug, but would not necessarily be visible.
