Philadelphia Commuting route from Mt. Airy to Temple University

Does anyone have suggestions for commuting routes from Mt. Airy to Temple University? I currently live in Fishtown and have a super short commute, but I'm considering Mt. Airy and would like to keep biking to work. I know I could go along the Schuylkill and then east on Fairmount for a nice longer ride, but I'd like to come up with a more direct route. Specifically, I need a route across Western North Philly. I've ridden Cecil B. Moore and Diamond, and they're fine in the middle of the day, but I'm not so sure about dark evening rides. I noticed Lehigh has bike lanes, but I've never ridden it. Any ideas?

Thanks.
