Chesini X-Uno - to paint or not to paint.
I recently picked up this Chesini X-Uno which has an awesome paint job on it. However, it's a bit bashed up - particularly around the chroming. I'm trying to decide whether I try and rescue this quite unique livery, or just go for a strip and respray. Advice and opinion much appreciated!

wow...that is a really beautiful bike! I used to work for a guy who had a bike restoration shop..so I know that it would be possible to have the redone exactly as it now....but I also know it would be very expensive.....so I'd say keep it as is, ride it, and some year you'll probably have a spare $800-$1,000 to redo it correctly.

Thanks! When I saw it I couldn't resist it. Even though it's seen better days.
I'm not sure how rare these are, especially with these kind of paint jobs. Would seem a shame to take it off.
Maybe some day it will shine again...

I hold off. Is it possible the rear stays have been clear coated and perhaps the clear needs to be stripped off? A majority of the chrome will clean up real nice.

Looks like quite a bit of the chrome is just plain gone. It would be a lot more than $800-1000 to re-do this bike, if you're thinking about doing it right, because you'd have to start with a full re-chroming.
So if it was mine, I'd probably just clean & wax it, get some bars with a more traditional bend, build it up with NR and ride.

Take the time to have a peek at Should I Paint My Bicycle? There are many things to consider, some, perhaps, more obscure than others.
In this case, clean the bike up (you might be pleasantly surprised at the results), implement a complete refurbishment and then ride it until you can't stand the cosmetics any more.

Nothing could persuade me to repaint that bike if it were mine. It's an old bike. The paint isn't going to be perfect. Wax it and learn to love it's patina. Or sell it to someone who'll enjoy it as is and buy a new frame. Honestly it looks amazing as is, let it be.
