Hi,
I’m trying to attach a rear Cat eye light with a slide through clip on a Topeak Tourist rack. I have the hardware, instructions, 2 plastic mounts, and screws. (Instructions suck.) For attaching the rear light there is a plastic mounting piece that pushes through the 2 holes on the rack. But there is no threaded nut for screws to go into. In other words there's no way for the screws to attach to the mount. Suggestions?

I have the same rack also had a topeak light that was supposed to work with it, same setup as yours. Totally stupid design, didn't really work. Topeak usually makes good stuff but that light mount/bracket is junk. I just use a light that has stretchy rubber straps, I can get it to stretch around that mounting bracket on the rack.

If you have a seatpost type mount for the light, if you have access to a piece of metal that has a 90 degree bend to it with a few holes, you might be able to make a mount. I cut the bracket in the photo from a piece of angle aluminum, drilled a few holes. The light had a seatpost clamp that I only used part of.

I mounted it lower than the top of the rack so that the light does not interfere with anything that extends behind the rack on the rack platform.

Rant warning-

The lack of an industry standard for light (or reflector) mounts is really too bad. It's one area that has suffered from the need to be brand/model/propriety specific (due likely to liability issues, IMO) that has swept the lighting segment over the last couple of decades. There was a time that the "2 holes, of 1/4" diameter, 1" apart" was the way this was done. One could use just about any reflector or light on any common bracket. The first, and wildly successful, Vista light (the mother of flashing LED tail lights) was made to mount this way.

But now lights have almost but not quite "belt clip" designs and brackets with a lack of solid attachments or adjustments. Even with the correct mount a slid in clip light will have some rattle often.

Here's two rear light mount solutions, both using the Paul type mount "peg" and how I run head lights on one of my bikes. Andy

Planet Bike and PDW tail lights, use this piece , and has the same 4 holes , pick any 2..

I got one with the PB 'Grateful Red ' tail light , for 2 AA batteries, This year they have added a 2nd USB charged internal battery version..




Self tapping screws dig their own threads as You screw them in,
It's a Most common way for mounting plastic reflectors...

see the nuts and bolts above .. nut goes in a hex molded in the Light QR mount ,
bolt in the back side of brackets you attach it to..


you have to find your own hardware.. a bike shop, if typical, has a huge bin of surplus reflectors..




OP Writing from Taiwan That's probably where they were exported from .. Port of Taipei?

Who Knows what brand they may use there, UK sells the same stuff as PB (US brand name) does ,
under a different name ..
