My uncle (55 years old, 5' 6" tall - very good shape) is considering getting a new road steed. This (Giant OCR-1) is the bike he is looking @ now. Please post any experience that you have with this bike. There is no need to post about other bikes, as my uncle has a hard head (some would say, just like his nephew!) and is really only considering this bike.

If you have any experience or would like to comment on this bike, please do. ThanX!!!!!

Im riding a 2001 ocr1. Great bike. The composite fork feels great. The 105 setup is great as well. Dont know how the ride compares to other bikes, doesnt seem to harsh to me. The seat might be part of my problem but it could be the frame, Id lean more towards the seat. Overall I say this bike is super and I would highly recommend it.

I have a 2002 OCR2. I've been pleasantly surprised, especially for a budget bike. The biggest surprise was the seat, which I was planning on swapping out originally. It turned out to fit me better than some other higher-end stuff, but a seat is still a personal preference.
The downside is that it doesn't look as "sexy" as some of the more expensive bikes, depending how much he is into the "cool factor." For all practical purposes, it's a good bike.

I currently have this bike and have really enjoyed it. It's my first road bike and so far I havn't found anything to complain about.

I do have to agree with Alex33 though about the "sexy" factor. It's not as sweet looking as some of the other more expensive bikes, but for the money you are getting a great practical road bike.

...Ahh, then I suggest traipsing down to your local Giant dealer and ask to see the "Spring Collection" catalog. For 2004, the OCR line gets an all new, lighter weight frame (TCR spec), curved seatstays (increased vertical compliance), TruVativ Triple crank (I like TruVativ cranks, though I don't even run a triple on my race MTB),Ultegra STIs and r. Dérailleur, Shimano paired spoke wheelset and if Giant is running true to form, those handy little Radius Cyclocross levers on the tops. Gorgeous team blue color scheme with matching carbon fork.

All for a little over a grand....

If I weren't such a retro grouch, I'd que up for one and immediately switch out the crank...

Giant is a great brand of bike. I have a 1996 CFR1 and a 2003 TCR1 composite and they are both fantastic. Never had a single problem with either bike. It is the first brand I recommend when anyone asks me about bikes.

Tell your uncle to ask the LBS about the "spring collection" OCR1. It has ultegra rear-deraill and new frame. Looks pretty cool. The fork appears to be threadless. I am not sure about the price, but it may be the same.

I built a couple of the new OCR's up this morning and they are fabulous. The new specs on the 2 and 1 are great upgrades and the 3 remains a solid performer. The OCR 1 and 2 do not recieve the cyclocross levers but the 3 does. That handlebar wrap turns out to be very rubbery and strange but the new saddles are nice and the wheels look sharp. The OCR 1 goes for $1100.

I ride the 2002 OCR1 and really think it's a great bike for the price. If you have a Performance bike Shop near you , now is the time to go, the stores around here (Chicago) have the 2003 OCR1's clearance priced at $849 ( I think the list is $1099), plus if you are a Performance Member you'll get back 10% worth of instore coupon so basically the price is $785...
I think that is a great price for an all 105 setup...

The only thing I changed was the seat... The only difference between 2002 and 2003 is the color....
