Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Five. They're great on the trainer for soaking up sweat. Nashbar has lots of them for cheap.

Better question; when do you wear them? My only use for them is under the helmet on rain days.

I wear one every day. Keeps the sun out of my eyes on sunny days, and the rain out of my eyes on rainy days.

i wear a hat or a skull cap on every ride, to keep the sweat at bay. or the rain, or the sun.

i've got a bunch of random euro-team hats, but these three are my faves:

* nike winter (ear flaps, bought in london)
* second ascent (local shop/team)
* my friend's very own custom hat:

Four . But they are only for the summer.. I wear them under my helmet for extra sun protection.. My question . Why can't they make them for grown ups. Some are so small, they compress your head until your eyes pop out.

No way I could do that; my head would bake. My brain needs all the airflow it can get.

Every ride; every season (we have seasons), under the helmet. Add water in summer = radiator and sunburn protection; keep warm in winter. Note that winter version is an ol ('80s) Campitello wool cap w/ earflaps.

I have 0, zero, cycling caps. With all the cycling stuff I have, bikes, jerseys, shoes, MTB shorts, lycra shorts, winter garments, bike racks, spare tubes, tires, derailers, cassettes, freewheels I've never had the desire to buy a cycling cap.

I concur, but if I don't I get sweat in my eyes which stings like a mofo. If only there existed some some sort of sweat "band"?

I wear mine on cold or rainy days when it's nice to have the bill of the cap keeping the crap out of your face/eyes. basically means I wore one in every single cyclocross race this year as well as throughout the year when conditions dictate.

I also wear one after every race/ride if I'm hanging out afterwards. It's what all the fat, wannabe racers/posing hipsters wear.

My team one gets worn the most now, but clashes with everything except the team kit....
