To be fair to the other side, the problem doesn't exist IF it's a fair weather ride in the sunshine AND you like Garmin more than simple computers. The times I really needed GPS navigation, lost in a rainstorm and depending on a phone, it was completely useless. Paper cue sheets, which I had, were also useless. I'd have loved to have had OP's idea or something along those lines.

I truly do feel for the navigation-ally challenged people that can't get by with a glance at a map before a ride. However the most useful tech I think that is very nearly to the point of marketing to the masses is heads up display tech on your glasses. Albeit it looks like you'll have to buy their glasses. But the results with some are looking good. There is a wealth of other information besides course info they can display while keeping your eyes where they might notice something more important, IE. a cyclist putting on the brakes in front of you.
