Way to haul fat bike to riding venue?
Greetings. I purchased a fat bike last week, (a Framed Wolftrax carbon), and am trying to figure out how to haul it around to where I want to ride. I currently have Yakima racks, both roof top mounted on the luggage rails and a hitch rack that will hold the bike by the toptube. The toptube rack might work, but the bike has a severly downward sloping crosstube and may be too think for the rack frame holders. The luggage rack rails are sized for road bikes and the fat bike has 4" tires. Any solutions that would work with my Yakima kit?

For the top tube rack, if the bike won't fit try one of these adapters:
https://www.yakima.com/tubetop
I've used them and they work fine. They are fairly common when dealing with full suspension and children bikes. There are cheaper versions from other brands.
For the roof mount trays, it will depend on the actual model. There may also be adapters. Or there may not be.

We bought a new Kuat NV rack, I still have a roof rack, but took it off the car and haven't used it in a long time since the Kuat is great for all of our bikes.

You'll need a strap extension for the rear wheel strap; otherwise, this rack is ready for fatbikes right out of the box.

I've got a Thule Big Mouth, and I use ratchet straps to hold the wheels on top of (not sitting in) the tray. It seems to work well enough.

Mine does not fit well on a Yakima rear mount rack and sounds too heavy anyway (the feet and straps seem to be pushing down too hard on the back panels causing a nasty creaking noise). Luckily, it fits into the trunk of our other car without removing any of the wheels (A bmw GT with the seats folded down). Not wild about the slop after the ride, but mostly, I use the bike within riding distance from my house. Only use the car when going out of the area.

Some years ago, I got an REI tent footprint on sale. It's a large rectangle of waterproofed nylon, much larger than my hatchback floor. It's nicer than the old hardware store blue tarp, which is kind of stiff.
REI garage sale items
For example, a 60 inch x 90 inch is about $21.
And these are great for anything messy, like potted plants or bags of mulch.

Good idea. I've been using an old blanket to protect the carpet but that gets pretty nasty.

I go old school; remove the front wheel and in the back with the rear seats folded down. Yea, I know it does not look as cool as the rear racks, where they un-mount the bike and it's ready to roll, but for me, mounting and un-mounting the rack itself, is a hassle.

Roof rack, yakima big mouth bike rack. Holds front wheel just fine, just use a bigger rear wheel strap.

Just wanted to give an update with my decision. I went with the Yakima toptube adapter that FrozenK mentions. All my other stuff is Yakima, so I'm comfortable with their products. For a fatbike, it isn't all that heavy. It's one of the carbon versions from Framed.
Brought it home from the shop and the hitch rack handled it fine. The front wheel hangs lower than what I would want. I'll just have to be careful going over big curbs and on rough roads.
p.s. Thank you all for your suggestions. I appreciate you taking the time to post your suggestions. When I get a Yakima "Rack and Roll", I'll have to get a different system to haul the bike around.

Fatdapter for fork-mount racks (kinda wish I found this 4 years ago) https://fat-bike.com/2018/02/fatdapt...-andy-amstutz/
