@smontanaro, if your doctor is bugging you, do it. It could save your life.
I took a ride with a neighbor, and he says he's been using a HRM for many years. He has a readout on his handlebars, and he has a very specific range to work within. He adjusts his effort to keep within that range. I think he has particular medical problems which make this a good idea for him. The result is that he is very fit and keeps himself safe. It seems like a good plan.
I got this more out of curiosity than to keep me safe. I am not at any particular kind of risk with my heart. And it can also help me get stronger if I use it well.
Using those Asian direct vendors definitely has its drawbacks. This is my first HRM, and I wanted to spend a small amount because I'm not sure a HRM is for me. If I decide I do want to keep using one, and if this one gives me problems, I'll buy a more expensive one from a vendor that is easier to deal with.

@noglider (et al) I've never been at any particular risk of heart disease either (though there's that pesky "family history" thing), though my LDL jumped at my last physical. Then he told me to get a calcium scan and that was high as well. So, I made an appt to see him (I refuse to add a chronic prescription drug with scary side effects to my medicine cabinet without discussing the topic in person) and need to wait until October for the next slot. I keep track of my resting heart rate and weight already. I figure the HRM can't hurt. "quantified self" and all that...

I like the cc's well enough, someday going to try and figure out how to get rid of the branding, wish they made a plain version, I'd put em on a lot of bike's if they did, the Campy's would get them to save the real ones.

Not really C & V, but my Garmin Vivosmart HR battery quit charging about the time the band broke. Found new bands on Ebay for <$5, but the battery is "non-replaceable by user". 😡 Garmin wanted $89 to repair a unit that I got 3 years ago for $75. Amazon sells refurbs for $59 incl free Prime shipping, no brainer. My old repaired unit would have been an $89 refurb + shipping, etc. The new refurb arrived today, got it bluetoothed, synced, good to go on my next vintage ride.
New unit in the box, old one in front goes in the e-waste recycle bin, I guess.
