Just picked up this 1986(?) Schwinn Prelude for $20.

I just couldn't pass it up for the price! Not sure when I'll get around to cleaning this one up but here are some quick as-is pics. I could be a year off, I haven't double checked.

Great score at a great price...these Schwinns are often overlooked but they are great rides.
Best, Ben

Nice find, looks like a nice project. You sure got a lot more for your $20 than I did.

Nice blue prelude for 20. Decals look good. Won’t take much to get it up and riding. I fit 28c on mine and makes for a smooth ride. Couple pics of my pink 87.

As found

Rear rack and new tires

Slightspeed,
Nothing to complain about....for a 20.00 I'd say you did very well.
Best, Ben

I would have been all over the Super Course (if in a ridable size).

It turned out great as a low buck build. The most expensive part was a newish Brooks. Pretty much everything except cables, $10 Exage brake levers and $10 Giant SPD pedals came from my spare parts stash. Sorry to hijack the thread, but its just my $20 worth. 😉

This is great, I love pink Schwinns. In fact, late 80's Schwinns just have really nice colors.

D*%M that turned out nice! Aren't you glad you let go of those "starbucks"?

Picked this one up for $30 about 3 years ago and went completely through it. It had mismatched wheels and needed all consumables but now it's a GREAT riding bike. It's a size too small and I have it for sale right now but I'm having serious 2nd thoughts about selling it as it does work for me.

As purchased:

Current "For Sale" configuration:

@polymorphself - Look for a four-digit number stamped vertically on the head badge and post it here. Fourth digit is the year (within whatever decade, of course).

Dang-ol', that's a steal. I'd pay $20 just to look at that bike.
