Motobecane ID and value request

I was recently given a motobecane Pro-Lite and a motobecane team champion. I have no idea their value or age but feel I have two bikes that are at least from the late 70s to early 80s. What information would I need to provide in order to get some kind of assessment on what I've got?

You have a couple high end Motobecanes from the eraly '80's. Value between$600-800 each, depending on condition.

What's the best process for posting photos and or request for purchasers? I have no need for the bikes and they are frankly a larger size frame then I would fit on myself. And they are in what I believed to be excellent shape. I just would like them to go to a good home at a fair price.

There's a lot to your question. First off, the term "fair price" is up for interpretation.
There's a lot of work involved. The best thing I can recommend is joining as a member here. Twelve bucks for a year and well worth it.
This will allow you to post in the For Sale section. Take lots of good clear pictures, from the drive side of the bike with good close ups of frame and components.
Then, figure out if they do sell what you will do about shipping them, if you're willing to. It's a lot of work. Buyer pays for it of course but that can be a deal breaker on either side. Sometimes a good bike shop in your area is qualified to disassemble , properly pack and maybe ship it for you.
Like I say, it's a lot of work. You can always put them on the big auction site, but you need to do a lot of legwork there too. And it will cost you 12 to 14% of the final sale. Great pics make a big difference. On a bike like a Team Champion it may just be worth it to you.
But it's all going to depend on condition, how well you portray that condition, in detail, to prospective buyers, and how much you ask for the bikes.
Good luck.

An early 70s team champion (blue and white) in excellent shape with almost entirely original parts (and a few tasty changes such as clincher rims) went on eBay for $485.

I am interested in both perhaps, if they are my size🙂
Could you tell us what size they are?

^^^Welcome, it sounds like you have some interesting bikes, before I would get too excited about the prices for sale I think it wise to post some pictures of them for a more fair evaluation. To get top prices on bikes, condition and originality are key.
Post the pics before cleaning to get some feedback as to how to proceed with cleannig...some times Too much cleaning with the wrong products will ruin decals etc.

JFYI, this is for appraisals and "not" a for sale sub-forum so as others have said join for the 12.00 and post in the for sale section....

You will not get as much as E-Bay(if new to the hobby and have to tear down and pack a bike for shipping it may not be worth it) but if bikes are nice you will receive more than a CL or Offer-up sale....maybe you won't even have to clean them that much, some of us like to do our own resto.!

Go to the introduction SF and say hello to a few newer members to get your count up so you can post pics...

Good Luck. Ben

Respond

This was kind of a tease. I had a vitus 979 around 1982. Fun bike, was hoping to see the Prolite.
Purchased a 78 Team Champion from the original owner , was hoping to this one as well.
OP went AWOL!

?Hm?
Early 70's Team Champions weren't blue and white. Le Champion, maybe?

The blue and white early 70s Team Champions were often teal and white depending on the amount of fading the frame has been exposed to.
