Fake Colnago?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Fake Colnago?

Just came across this listing:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Campagnolo-...cAAOSwYyZdgPWs

The club cutouts in the lugs look wrong. The paint doesnt look like any Master AD I've seen (not that that means much). The tubes dont look to be Gilco, which they should be with AD paint, right?

The pictures do make it hard to see. I'd ask for more detailed photos to be sent thru Ebay. In those photos, the tubing looks a little large for the Gilco tubing I have on my Master, but, it's an early one; it has Columbus Gilco. In a way, it reminds me of my Colnago Classic.

Were they making fake Colnagos then?

Seems like the fake or imitation frames didn't really pop up until carbon came out.

It's missing the Columbus tubing decal, but otherwise I can't imagine someone going to the trouble to fake that.

By the way, the tubing and lugs look a lot like my 1997 Colnago "Crystal". To my eyes, the dropouts, the seat tube, the lugs, the BB all look very similar. The one in your link even has the same little sticker on the drive side of the seat tube, just above the BB.

I'd be very surprised if someone went to the trouble to fake all that. Not having the tubing decal does indicate maybe they want to have someone think it's a higher grade tubing than Crystal? It wasn't their worst, and is still really nice, but IIRC it wasn't their best (lightest) by two or three levels.
