yes, it is an old Hero bike. They are made in India by the tens of thousands, in the old English rod brake design. The bike is pretty much worn out so no great loss. My wife got it at a furniture store here in Ventura as a surprise. I think about a year ago a guy posted one very similar and I shared pics of it then. I’ve seen variations of it out there and right after we got it I went back to the furniture store for my recliner and they had another one just like mine there so I guess it isn’t as unique as I thought.it’s still cool though and we get a lot of compliments , it’s right in our entry way to our home. same with surfing regular foot for me. I surfed with a guy that was switch foot . I just couldnt get it , I always pop up on the same stance. Lefts are tricky, thankfully all our point breaks are rights. Joe

First? i swing my right leg over from the non-drive side. I do not swing a second leg over. What would that accomplish?

NDS; pull the pedal up with right foot, push down, and use leverage to push me into the saddle. Lefty too, but this is how I learned.
I think this may be why noobs tend to take NDS pics; getting on the DS is awkward, whereas NDS is just get off bike, lean, pic.

right leg over if on the NDS side, left leg over the DS. i tend to mount whatever side i'm on at the moment. in the bmx days, leap frog whenever possible. it was just fun to do

I always put my right leg over first. I do this because my right leg is the one with the artificial knee and the most problems, and it ends up being easier to do this way.

Like a Horse or Motorcycle
Always mount from the left and swing the right leg over. Motorcyclists put their left foot down at a stop to keep the right foot over the rear brake so I find that most natural. You should also dismount from a horse or motorcycle to the left, anything else feels unnatural and you might spook the horse. Wait, what forum am I in?

That would depend on which knee wants to bend that day, and which one wants to bear weight. Why I ride a low entry bike. It still blows my mind that while I find it hard to walk far, yet I can ride a bike with no problem. Arthritis sucks. But as long as I can get on and ride its not too bad.

I stand on the left side of the bike, put the left foot on the left pedal (raised to level or a bit higher), push off, swing the right leg behind the seat to the right side. This significantly reduces the time it takes to get going on the bike. I can be 100 yards down the road before most riders lift their fat legs over the top tube and get 1 foot clipped in, turn that crank backward until the clipped in foot is up and then decide where they are going. It also significantly reduces the amount of hip flexing. It works really well for overweight people who can't lift their leg over a top tube. You do need some balance skills. So much easier for older people with any sense of balance. (this method does not work on tandems or when you have a baby seat on the back or on bents or with three wheelers.)

I practiced so that I can mount or dismount my bicycle from either side.
Regarding mounting and dismounting from the left side of a horse; that's because a horse is more likely to kick with a right leg than with a left leg.

I keep my bike to the left from me when mount, which means I'm on Non-driveside. Not sure if I do this because it seems to be safer or because i'm left-handed.
