Fort Wayne, IN. We have 3 Rivers Velosport Club (?). I need to check it out, they sponsor rides and have meetings, etc. There are a couple of trails: the River Greenway, which follows our 3 rivers (but usually not useful for me to commute), the side trails from the Greenway (like 2-3 short loops), and coming soon a good trail on the SW side (I'm northeast).

This Saturday the local NPR station is sponsoring a "Bike-nic" 7a-10a ride on the Greenway, then a picnic and activities at the park downtown. Sounds nice, I'll be there with my 12 year old son.

Drivers here are usually oblivious to riders, there aren`'t any bike lanes, usually the shoulder is non-existant, totally trashed or stops suddenly.

Not a lot of riders here, but that is changing, I think. Or else I'm just noticing more cyclists since I started a month ago (a little of both, maybe). My commute is 6 miles to the local Indiana U. Purdue U. campus. They added dorms last year, so now there IS a lot of bikes on campus, but there didn't used to be.

I too, just noticed this Regional forum.

I live in Stevensville, MI. Along Lake Michigan, 20-some miles from the Indiana border. Grew up a painfully small town between Lansing and Ann Arbor.

Milwaukee here. Well... Shorewood, actually, which is just a sneeze north of Milwaukee. You'll generally see me heading down Lake Drive in the morning and riding up Lincoln Memorial on the way home. I'll either be on a red Specialized Allez Sport, or my new blue IRO Rob Roy.

And on the weekends, if there is time to get out, I generally head to Pt. Washington, then over to Cedarburg and back through Thiensville.

(Crank Daddy's is my bike shop too. They rock. Andrew is awesome.)

Tomah, Wis. where I-90 and I-94 split. I do road rides after work during the week. But am limited to a small area, due to many large hills or the interstates. On days off it's rail/trails. I've ridden alot of them. As far north as the Mesabi trail in northern Minnesota to as far south as the Katy trail in Missouri.

I live near Springfield, Ohio, 25 miles NE of Dayton. I'm retired, in my mid 50's, so I spend most afternoons riding some of the hundreds of available miles of bike paths here in SW Ohio. (Rough life). Here is a good listing of the available trails around here. Most are absolutely beautiful.

Apexspeed,

Hey, I live in St Charles (maybe I wrote that somewhere already). In town about 5 blocks east of the river. Is Hideaway Hill the one by Tekawitha nature center? If that's it, it's the best reason to ride north from St. Charles and the worst to come back up it hours later. Good times, good times! Are you going on Oct. 1?

Here's a great route in the Ann Arbor area that I do on occasion, it's not actually as long as the gmap pedometer claims it is though, more like 120 miles. It takes you over some of the biggest hills that I know of in the area. If you want me to map you out some other nice routes in the Ann Arbor area I can be of some assistance.

I don't know if you can rent bikes in Ann Arbor, there are a couple of student bike shops that sell used bikes.

Ann Arbor, MI here. There aren't too many hills in the area unless you know where to look, but we aren't too far from one of the best mountain bike trails in the region.

The Murfin St. hill on North Campus is pretty steep, but not too long though. That hill is tough, when im riding home from work, and ive been on my feet all day. Downtown Ann Arbor is in a valley, so riding into town is mostly all downhill, and riding out is all up hill, although its pretty gradual. You can really feel it on Huron Pkwy, Plymouth Rd., and Liberty St..

I saw a bike for rent sitting outside the student bike shop on Maynard once, but that was several years ago.

The hilly places I know of is Huron Pkwy, a major road on the East side, between Washtenaw Ave., and Plymouth Rd. That is about 4 miles long. If you ride North on Huron Pkwy, you will be going uphill mostly. Between Washtenaw and Geddes, its up and down steep, but short hills, then it will level out briefly and be long, more gradual up hill. There is not much built up on Huron Pkwy, and it has a wide MUP.

If you turn off of Huron Pkwy onto Glazier Way, you will find a big, killer hill. Green Rd, that is the first big street you will cross, runs paralle to Huron Pkwy, and is pretty hilly also.

There is a steep hill on Murfin Ave. on N. Campus, a shorter street off of Plymouth Rd., on the North side of town. Plymouth Rd. is a somewhat long, gradual uphill, if you go Eastbound.

Liberty St. from Main St. to Stadium Blvd. is mostly uphill if you go West on it, away from town. There is a bike lane.

Im more familiar with the North and East side of town, so there is probebly a lot more steep hills around. These are just some hills I know. I tried making a map, but if i make a map of the whole city, then there isnt enough detail. There are hills all over Ann Arbor, but from what ive seen, the south side seems to more flat than other parts. If you want a very steep hill, ide go for Glazier Way.

Hope that helps a bit.

Macomb Township, just a mile NE of Lakeside Mall. I mostly post in the 50+ forum.

I ride with whatever club has a ride at my pace on a convenient night: Clinton River Riders, Wolverines, Slow Spokes, and by myself mostly at Stoney Creek and the Metro Parkway MUP.
