Just out of curiosity...

Has anybody ever used the chemical reaction of steel and aluminum to put a frame together? I had this differential trike I was working on(got stolen) that previous owner had aluminum hubs on it's steel axle and they were pretty much welded on there and I waa going to grind off what I could and have the rest machined off. I was thinking maybe an aluminum frame with steel lugs and BB and maybe spritz it with water or something to speed it up.

I doubt that "bonding" between FE and AL has anywhere near the strength (let alone any of the other desirable characteristics bike frames need) of either FE based alloys or Al ones. Andy

Just wondering since it seems they naturally bond together pretty good, given enough time.

water alone will never get you where you want to be. Welding dissimilar metals is a tricky business, with lots of steps to getting a proper weld, and I'm not sure it'd be successful on metals in the bike tube scale of thickness.

If you're serious about it, do some research about metal bonding epoxies...

Overall this doesn't sound to me like a fantastic idea for a frame.
