Peugeot bike; what model is it?

I received a Peugeot bike (PX10?) from my neighbor over 10 years ago and have casually rode it during the short Minnesota summers. My plan is to sell it sometime in the near future. I am wondering what model it is and from what year and a ballpark figure about what it might be worth. In addition, maybe some information on what is original to the bike and what is not. This appears to be a great website with many people that know quite a bit more about this bike then I do. Not sure how to get pictures into the thread though; sure hard to figure out what I have otherwise. I can't seem to find the advance editor to download some pictures; it was mentioned to use to download pictures (either that or I could do 10 nonsense posts to get up to 10 posts).

You'll need to post 10 times before you can post pics.

Here's a catalog scan for a 1974 PX-10. If yours like this? Note the chrome legs on the fork and the rear stays. If it doesn't have this, it's probably not a PX-10.

Also, you can look over the various years and models at the site if yours doesn't match that.

Thanks for the information; if I find the time, I will take a look at all the information although with the link you set, my bike looks similar but not the same so it probably is not a PX10

Advance editor

Sure would be nice to figure out where the advance editor is on this site and how to use it regarding downloading pictures in a post; I used a nearly identically designed website that was a forum for a different item and their website was a lot more user friendly than this site; the idea of having to do 10 posts before you can post pictures makes no sense whatsoever for someone like myself just looking for information. This is just me venting I guess.

Safetyman, welcome to Bike Forums. After finding your post I thought I’d take a minute to explain to you why you can’t post a picture yet. We are by far the largest bicycle themed forum in the world. And therefore we are a ripe target for spammers to attempt to advertise their wares. In an effort to reduce the amount of spam that we have to deal with we have instituted a number of things.

One of which is withholding new forum members from posting pictures or links until they have made 10 posts. That gives us enough time to sort out most of the spammers from the regular forum members. Another measure we had installed is 5 posts in 24 hours limit to new forum members. Once you get past 10 posts both of those restrictions are automatically removed.

Forums want new threads and posts and welcome new forum members. So instead of getting mad and saying things make no sense whatsoever, maybe just ask why there is a limit. An easy way to get your post count up is to go to our Introductions forum and introduce yourself. Then maybe take a couple of minutes and greet some other new forum members.

Thank you.

It is a shame that is the only way you could sort out the spammers; they make more work for all the people that want to use the forum for the purpose it was intended for.

To the untrained eye, all vintage Peugeots from that era look "like" PX10s, but most aren't. A closer look and you will spot the differences, cottered crankset, stamped drop outs, pump peg on the down tube, no chrome on the rear stays, claw rear derailleur hanger, steel rims, etc.

As far as the purpose of this forum, its not really designed for someone to swoop in, place a handful of postings, then swoop out. Its designed more for enthusiasts that routinely spend time here. Many forums are designed this way.

@cb400bill.

You explanation has helped me to understand why people, new to the Bike Forums, could not post pictures until they had accrued 10 posts or more. Now...

@Safetyman - most of the people on this forum are very nice, helpful and knowledgeable. Hoping that I might be considered to be one of them, send me a couple of pictures of the bike and I will help you present them immediately. How does that sound?

Sounds like a good idea; based on what I have seen on the website, the bike probably is not a PX10; do you have an email address I can send the pictures to?

Thanks for the information; I plan on selling the bike later this summer and wanted to have a good idea of what I have and what it might be worth before selling it. I could tell this website had many people that could answer all my questions as soon as I logged in.

you're close to 10 posts right now. If you post a few pics (esp. of the drive side), we can give you a valuation range. Knowing your location helps also since that affects the value.

I was keeping watch but did not see any pictures from you. I checked both email addresses that I gave you. What name did you email under? Sorry, it was/is my intention to help, not confuse or waste others' time.

Ah, that helped and not sure how I missed the emails. Still not sure, but here some of the pictures, the others would do little to help identify the model. Based on what I see, I will guess at a 1976, or close to it, Peugeot UO8...

The subject bicycle is a 1977 Peugeot U08. In pictured condition it's a $50-$75 bicycle, in an average market.

Yes, looks like one of those rare Peugeot's whose serial number prefix "707" is a date-code that actually refers to month/year.
