Tamarind

A friend of my wife say's when she was in Israel they put Tamarind in coffee and it was outstanding. My google search has told me that Tamarind is very healthy for you and will help you to lose weight. I have never heard of Tamarind before and would like to know if anyone knows anything about it. Prime importance is how to use in coffee...

I've never heard of people using tamarind in coffee, but cardamom is very commonly added to coffee in Israel and other parts of the Middle East.

I can't imagine adding anything to good coffee. Well, with good creamer. Dunkin' Donut's creamer is really good for the money. Good coffee is already its own treat, filled with complex flavors.

But bad to mediocre coffee? Heck, anything goes. I've tried every spice in my cabinet, even fenugreek and galangal root, in coffee and mediocre tea, at least once just to try it out. Gives it a slightly smoky flavor like sweet curry. And I've used coffee as a marinade for cooking Swedish style lamb, or lammstek. Sounds disgusting but it's incredibly tasty, like nothing you've ever had before.

Candied tamarind sounds tasty. It's one of those things I pass on almost every grocery store trip and say "Next time."
