They're pretty much identical, except one's a 24-inch with a triple & Dura Ace wheels, the other's a 25-inch with a double and the wheels I built myself. It's a pretty satisfying feeling to bomb down a descent at 50+, knowing I personally assembled, tightened and trued the wheels my life is riding on.

The red stripe on the 3T threadless stems compliments the Peloton logo nice IMO. Both have matching red, Jandd saddle bags, but silly, vain creature that I am, they are removed for the pic.
They are super awesome. The colors are perfect!!

Keep us abreast of your wheels, especially!
Right now I'm thinking either:
* Shimano R500 with decals removed
* Shimano hubs laced to Mavic CXP21's
* DA 7700 hubs laced to Velocity V's
* Shimano 600 tricolor hubs, Mavic rims

Have some other choices too, but they are mostly earmarked for other planned builds...

YET MORE!!

Jante' rim strips on and tires mounted...

Chain and shift cables installed, derailleurs adjusted...

Brake cables installed and stretched...

Finally, bars wrapped, pedals installed, and after the test ride...Voila!

OK, so did an 11 mile ride (in the dark with a headlight) yesterday early morning, and took it tonight to the weekly Speed Works Ride (16 miles, fast as you can go, sometimes 50+ riders; when it stays light later we add a 9 mile hillride on the back end).

Rides very nicely, completely silent except for the sound of the indexed downtube shifters. Descends well, carves corners like a champ, takes bumps like a good steel ride should. I moved the seat up and back a little after the pics were taken.

If I keep it I think I'll replace the 90mm stem with a similar-looking Cinelli or 3TTT 110, and put an FSA 50 tooth big ring on there.

Geometry is very similar (the same? I should look that up...) to an '87 Tempo, but the tubing is SL/SP vs. Tenax. I honestly can't tell the difference in ride quality.

So...like a bright red Tempo. Can't get much higher praise than that, in my book.

That looks fantastic. I really like what you did with the DA (7700, right?) and DT shifters. Someday I'm going to do a build like that. Should last forever shifting perfectly.

Yes, verifying the geometry is the same, (per the Schwinn scans, (bless those guys for putting them out there for all to enjoy)) '87 Tempo to '85 Peloton. Thanks for the follow up. Nice you got the fit easily dialed in.

poke em, post a pick or 3 of your '87 Prologue. The cousins are invited, around here.

I need to ride my stock 85 Peloton back to back with the 86 and see if I can tell much different they are. I like them both.-- Oberthecat

Hey Ober, what conclusion did you arrive at?

Red Schwinn Peloton racing bike for sale. I believe it is fron the mid-90's. The bike is in really good condition, the only thing it needs is new tubes in the tires. The bike has racing foot straps and a custom gel seat. If you would like to see it, please contact me to make an appointment.

My town, no connection to the seller. I just post'em.
This looks like an '84, due to the Sugino crank. (I miss posted BRAZUCA's as an '85, per the CL ad. Whoops it's an '84.) Nice of Schwinn to speck different cranks for each year:
'84 Sugino
'85 Sun Tour New Superbe Pro
'86 Sugino New 75

Brian, warm welcome to the freak show. Glad you discovered a Pel and posted. Tell us how long have you owned that whip, and how does she ride?

I concur whole heartily how nice these bikes drive. As to pics, please search the forums, for a how to. I struggled to get the originals up, and haven't posted any of the current configuration. The CL ads get the cut and paste treatment. If they don't cooperate then the ad goes up here with out'em.

I put this one on the catch of the day thread. A lot of the original bits are missing, in particular, the RD and the wheels (ouch...) It does have the original bars, stem, crankset, brake calipers, FD and levers.

SORA RD (oh, the inhumanity!!!)

This is the bike in posting #142....

It got a little cheaper as the winter progressed........

I've been trying to put some miles on it since my own overhaul, but it required
very little in order to be roadworthy, so it got pushed up in the project line.

Figures... I spent four years searching Ebay & Craigslist, nearly every single day before I got my first taste, and now they're coming out of the woodwork.
I had one of those Paramount computers on my original Peloton and got it up to 71mph coming down Mount Baldy Road. (It's a pretty straight, sustained 8-percent grade for a while and I passed two motorcycles coming down it after l'Etape du California last year.)
I just rode my 24-incher 66 miles today on a brisk, windy day and it was so sweet! The triple Dura Ace 7803 shifts smoother than anything I've ever ridden, and the frame... well, you know...

3alarmer, please regale us with a ride report. Happy new bike too!

You know the expression, I don't know art, but I know what I like.
That is the sense I had, when reading the Asian Vs European bike thread.
Some will never care for Schwinn, others are unattracted to Japanese builds.
All fine by me. These Schwinn's spected, Panasonic built bikes, with Columbus SL/SP tubes provide a supreme ride. But then Chris just said all that and more with four words and an emoticon.

Hooray Chris! Oh and the smile, says it all. Miles of smiles on these bikes once their dialed in.
