Deciding between a Emonda SL6pro or Emend SL6 Disc
I need a new bike for when I go off to college and I want to start racing.
I want to race in hills because I only weigh 115lbs so I climb really well. I need a light carbon bike and I am sitting between the SL6 Disc and SL6 Pro. The biggest thing for me is something that will help me win on more hilly terrain. I climb better and I am not as fast of a descender. I don't know if I really need Disc breaks because I won't race or ride in wet conditions because I just hate it. The past bikes I have ridden with had disc breaks so I am used to them, but at the same time if I am descending naturally 2-3mph slower then everyone else.
What bike would you recommend for me out of the two.
Also how much could I get off my Domane ALR4 Disc? It has been through one crash but I get it checked out every few months and its working fine and all parts that were impacted by the crash were replaced. It retailed for 1650$

My son worked at a shop all through college and bought a Madone 6.2 before leaving the shop. That was 8 years ago and it's still a great bike.
50% off is a deal you won't see again.

College kid wanting to "start" racing? Crashing is inevitable. Don't waste your money (even at a steep discount) on a bike that may well end up in the dumpster. Get an Emonda ALR-that bike will in no way hold you back for your intended purpose.

I purchased a SL6 pro and have already upgraded my wheels and to the Di2 shifters. With that said, if I were you, I would do the disk, then upgrade the wheels later if you want.

Recommending for a college student to go into debt to buy an expensive bicycle (even at half price) is a bad idea.

If he can afford a SL6 Pro then the SLR6 is only $300 more. He could then upgrade the wheels at a later date.
BTW, my son raced on a Allez Comp and won. He didn't get the Madone until the end of his senior year when he was leaving the bike shop.

How do you know what his finances are? He already has a Domane ALR4, if he's short of cash then he should just keep it. If he's got money in the bank and can afford a SLR, it's worth it in the long run than to buy a SL and later upgrade again.
SL6 Disc is $3150/$1575 8.18kg
SL6 Pro is $3700/$1850 7.30kg
SLR 6 is $4300/$2150 6.59kg

Well personally I say go for it. I remember when I splurged and bought a motorcycle in college and had a blast. Enjoying something when you are young and at your best is awesome in itself. Lots of good memories made during your youth...can't put a price tag on that.
