Just to hijack this thread a bit, I just came across this ebay listing and after drooling briefly, I looked more closely:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-PIN...MAAOSwl5NdBBxp

Note the plain bottom bracket and presence of bridge. Note the internal cable routing. I suspect the labels to be replacements, which makes the Cromor suspect - Cromor didnt come around until 1990-ish, and I don't think they had riveted on badges at that point. So, what is it? Not a Montello obviously. I'd have thought maybe the same as Grewal's Olympic bike, which did have the non-Montello BB, but did have internal routing?

Anyone?

Decals don’t look original seeing as they are still there! But I think the giveaway is the Columbus decal on the seat tube - I don’t think it was ever put in that location. I wonder if that decal on the top tube drive side (Schouten?) is the painter/builder.

I think Cromor existed in 87, but it was called Matrix. Something about Trek having rights to Matrix.

Serial number aligns with 87 format.

Would a Treviso have been made with Cromor or always SL? In the photo of the underside of the fork crown, it doesnt look like it has the ribs. I've always seen the Columbus sticker right under the top tube. I suspect the entire frame is a repaint (a very nice one)? Have you ever seen one with the fork crown painted?

It's a couple cm smaller than my Montello but I'm tempted.

What is the S/N code for a Pinarello? I've always assumed mine to be an 87 - I'm not sure Spumoni existed before then, and mine came with parts consistent with 87.
Here's my Montello BB:

Trevisos are mostly SL. They did grow an FD tab in ‘87.

The painted fork crown started to appear in ‘87.

The serials don’t tell us much, but roughly fall into three periods:

X### - 1982
XX### - 1985
#X### - 1987

So looking at your serial alone I would say 1985 or 1986, but you have to take everything else into account as well.

Fun, huh?

I bought my bike used at the end of 92 (it was back in the shop that originally sold it, on consignment). It came with 88 Chorus (based mainly on that derailleur with the pivot, but I still have most of the parts and they look identical to the group photo).

I'm back ! The frame has been at the paint shop for a few weeks and last Friday I went down to take a look. I was very happy with what I saw! The internal cable routing work is very good according to the shop owner. The top tube does not show any signs of cable guides being removed. The rest of the frame is in pristine shape with no rust, dents or scratches. Next stop, chrome shop!! (apologies for a couple of blurry phone shots)

I've got a feeling that fork isn't installed correctly

Exciting! There's just something compelling about raw frames.

See if you can weigh it before you start adding stuff to it.

Yep! I’m excited about This project and my wife is looking forward to riding her new bike! I’m still thinking about that internal routing. All of the brazing on the bike looks exactly the same, including the cable tubes. My frame mechanic is pretty sure it was done by the manufacturer at or near the time the frame was made.

Then you have a rare Treviso with internal cable routing, well done!

I have the same frame and it was misidentified as a Catena Lusso when I purchased it. No Catena Lusso ever had internal cable routing as far as I can find, Neither did Treviso however Pinarello seemed to make a "Pinarello Special 1978 GPT Givanni Pinarello Treviso bike" I think our frames are a Treviso Specials from the 80's. These Specials did not merit a page in the English catalog.

If you search for the Pinarello Special 1978 GPT givanni Pinarello treviso bike on ebay and a Italian Ebay listing will pop up.
