You guys don't know about office politics until you've been in higher ed.
But as others have said, sit on it. At the very best you'll get into a situation where you've got a low to mid-level person's word against your supervisors boss' word.
If you absolutely feel that you must act on it, I would talk directly to the supervisors boss, but tread carefully and phrase it in a way that makes it seem like it was a misunderstanding.
BTW -- for what it's worth, there's never a 100% guarantee in delivery with email. While the odds are like a gajillion to one against a delivery failure, the protocol allows for silent fails, or delivery up to a week after a message was sent. Plus through tools like anti-spam countermeasures into the mix, and it's possible that an email was lost in transit. If you need to address it, keep that in mind and maybe point out that you never got the approval email and that maybe it was a technical glitch -- at the very least, it would allow your bosses boss to save some face...

Apparently I must be out of the loop (or just slow) because somehow I missed the announcement that this year San Dimas TT is about half mile longer than last year. 3.8 vs 4.25 miles.
Great news for us fatties

Also, sometimes legitimate mail can end up in the JunkMail folder, even from inside the company from the same domain, so the recipient might not see it.
If it's critical, you can send it with a "read receipt" so you get notified when the recipient opens it.

Speaking of office crap..
I was knee deep in a big pile of it when I walked into the office this morning at 7:20. One of the guys that works for me, who gets in around 6AM, was grumpy poo poo pants because he had been reamed out by the director for one of the centers that we support. Turns out one of the staff members in the center was supposed to do some things back in February, but never did, and when confronted about it by her boss (the center director), she threw my guy under the bus. The director told my guy he needed to shift all of his priorities to work exclusively on her issue, and that he needed to do it right then and there.
Since I'm the boss, I got to step in. I told my guy not to worry and that I'd handle it. I spent the next 90 minutes collecting all of the facts, getting them in order, and then politely explained to the director of the center that she needs to contact me rather than my staff when there's a concern about my staff's priorities and schedule. I then got the privilege of explaining to the director that my guy had spent a month working exclusively on this project, at the expense of every other unit that he is supposed to support, and that the ball had been left in her team's court since February 22nd.
One of the dean's complimented me on handling the situation this afternoon.
There was some other poo too, involving an emergency shut down of our machine room and a rush migration of some services, but that's not office politics..

Just got the lady signed up for a track cert course this Saturday. I'm on the way to pick up some pedals for her from the shop. Since her road bike is out of commission till the RD comes in, we'll get her rolling at the track this weekend in stead.
I just hope we both survive the steep learning curve she'll be on.

I think I'm skipping my ride tonight. There's a big green blob on the radar, and my head hurts.

How many of you guys race track on the side?
I'm just finishing up doing my taxes and looks like I'll have some spare dough (ugh always get a return even though I try not to). Dick Lane Velodrome is like 10 miles from my house so I might be able to swing by a few times a month.
You guys think I should grab myself a track bike and start doing some track races? Good summer fun during the week? Good training? (Keep in mind my 5s is <900w and I weigh 135lbs, should still be fun though? Prob can use my strengths somehow?)

BTW -- do you know Firmon H? He lives up that way and does road races + track, comes down here every now and then and rides with us. Teammates with Tony Scott.

There's a local velodrome project in the works here. A 501(c)(3) has been formed and apparently they've got a commitment from the county for the site at a regional park. But it's been pretty slow going. I'm hoping it'll be built in time for Lucas to use it.
