Icicle Creek and Canyon + Camping with the bike (pics - must see)
We got perfect weather this weekend - a touch of summer - and I was determined to enjoy it. I got up early on Saturday morning, and drove out to Leavenworth with my bike, camping gear, climbing gear, and photography gear in too-crowded car. Arrived at Barney's Rubble on Icicle Creek, built a rappel station, and spent the rest of the day climbing, rappelling, and belaying another climber. I spent the night under the stars, then got up the next morning and enjoyed a longish, scenic road ride. After that I did some more rappelling, then went home.
If my Garmin is right, it hit 86* F in the sun yesterday. It was the first ride of the year in a tee-shirt (wool). I got a bit of a sunburn. It was great! I took a scenic back road across town to warm up, then rode the canyon floor, which gains about 1,500 feet in the span of about 8 miles, mostly in spurts. It kept going from a stretch of almost flat, to a short and somewhat steep incline, then back to nearly level. I ran out of water on the way up, and had left my purifier behind, so I melted snow in the sun while I was sweating from the heat of the sun.

I've done lots of rappelling before, but this weekend was the first time I built my own anchors and rapped from them, with no supervision.

Beautiful pictures. It has been very nice for the last 4 days in Eastern WA too. Did 4 rides basically using my summer clothes. Hopefully it will stay warm.
