Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Did some fake miles on the Cervelo. It turns out that tuning out noise on the stand vs in the saddle at 100rpm is a little different. Couldn't adjust away the FD noise in the big ring/little cogs - the outside of the cage was starting to contact the crankarm - so I'll have to play around with the spacers that came with the BB.

Mine is 2016, the first disc year and has 5mm shorter chainstays than yours. It was originally equipped with a special FSA crankset to get the chain line far enough outside to accommodate the 142 mm rear dropout width. For some reason, mine came to me (unridden) with a 6800 crankset, which was one reason I bought it. Anyway, with a little fiddling I've got it quiet and shifting well throughout the range. You should have no problems.

Yeah, I saw this mentioned when hand-wringing over it. I'm not too concerned, but I know that I'll have to fiddle a bit. Hopefully I wont have to shim the granny ring (the rings on the new Shimano cranksets are set a little wider apart and the FDs were made to accommodate that), but that's not the end of the world if it comes to that.

Just found out from corporate that I'm cleared to go to a 30 hr work week when we add our 3rd neurologist (in September) if that's what I want to do. No changes in base salary, benefits, etc. Its up to me to get enough work done to make the same (or more!) in my bonus pay but I actually think I can do it.

Sweet.

I had so much angst with this corporate takeover but so far its been a net win for me: new CT, new MRI, new Neurologist and now maybe a new, more compact schedule.

I will still probably work 4 days a week, unless I can come up with a schedule that works for everybody with me working 3 x 10hr days. But I'm probably going to go from 4 x 10hr days Mon-Thurs to a new schedule of 4 x 7.5 hr days, with the days being Mon/Tue, off Wed, Thur/Fri, off Sat/Sun.

I rode a bike today. Pain free and drug free. 8 km to get my physical therapy and the eight return kms are coming up. Seems I have tight psoas. The seat of the soul.

I'm playing carpenter/painter @ home evenings and weekends again. I am attempting to ready the domicile for a spring sale. I need a smaller house and larger garage.
I purchased 5 , 6 pannel doors and 6 pannel closet doors for all the bedrooms, bathroom and linen closet. To save time and money I retrofitted the new doors into the existing jambs. . I thought it would be easier and cheaper..... until I read the instructions on the primer. I needed to sand all the varnished woodwork back to bare wood. That was 4 days worth of hand sanding. I'm planning on putting the final coat of paint on the doors tonight. Still have to do the closet doors though.
Then the real fun starts....painting rooms.

I thank God I survived that ordeal. I celebrate periodically.

I thought the issue was completely gone by 2018.

It probably is, at least with Shimano cranks (they changed their disc group chainstay length requirements strong suggestions with the new groups), but mine is a Power2Max/Rotor and BBs will vary a little, too.

We had a fantastic ride today.

I forget who asked about cold weather gear, but it can be done on the cheap. For temps around freezing I use a summer jersey as a base layer, a long sleeve jersey (or polypro base layer)in the middle, and a medium thick sugoi jacket. If a bit warmer pitch the long sleeve middle layer. If way under freezing (like 15-25F) add another summer jersey for extra layer. Waist down, medium tights over bibs/shorts, if below freezing I have wind proof thicker tights, and those RARE rides when under say 15F I use both tights.

This reminds me that I haven't aired my ailment - since the marathon VA road trips, I have had very angry upper back muscles, particularly on the left side. Before my chiro visit, I was having tinglies from fingertips up (thumb, index and ring, for those wondering) when sitting in certain positions. That has mostly gone away, but I could certainly feel the tightness and tingle on the trainer today. I'm guessing that beer and massages would be the best way to address the problem.

I made an offer on a Cervelo stem on ebay; the offer is $40 lower than the asking price, but is in line with the history of completed sales in the last few months. The seller countered my offer with a price that's $5 less than his asking price. Why even bother with the "Or Best Offer" option if you're only willing to budge 5 bucks?

Looking at the bright side, it's possible the coronavirus might kill all humans except for those of us protected by mouse chromosomes.
