I hate to do this because of all the hate I get from other cyclists who want to bash by Huffy, but I LOVE my Huffy! Sure, it's a department store or big box bike, but it has got the job done for me and never let me down. Sure, it's a heavy bike, but it is strong and reliable for the most part. How many of you here love your Huffy but are too afraid to brag about it? Well, fear no more, for this is the official Huffy lovers thread.

My Huffy is a typical big box mountain bike. It's a Huffy Thunder Ridge. This bike was in my garage for ten years before I started riding it and it worked great even after all the idle time.................





This Huffy is actually equipped with Shimano SIS indexing and it works flawlessly.................





And the frame! Can anyone ever say they broke a Huffy frame? This one is super sized and heavy as hell............



Is it Titanium? Is it Boron? Is it Steel? Who the hell knows! It's supposed to be all three somehow...........



New tires, tubes and a little love and this bike has been serving me well. I do have a better bike that is my primary ride, but the Huffy is still ridden quite often and never let me down. Not only that, if there was a rack full of Huffys and there was a desperate bike thief around, I would think mine would be the top pick for a $20 sack.............

You know what, my response was a little off beat. It's great that you like your bike no matter what it is. To be honest I think the Shimano SIS group is pretty neat and interesting. If it rides well go haul ass in it. I'm sure it's like the feeling I have for my 1987 Bianchi Grizzly with Deore. Rode it today and could not believe how good it shifted and how comfy it was. Cheers and ride it hard!

Shes not a huffy, in fact I have no idea what she is given I built her from an old hybrid, parts from a broken roadbike, and bits I had lying around. That being said I got a 1x8 indexed shifting 29 inch wheeled bike for $200 total spent and had the fun of building her. Go cheap bikes.

I don't mind the OP's bike at all. It reminds me of my Bridgestone MB-6 I purchased in 90. Not one of the coveted Bridgestones and it has some rust but I like it so I can see why the OP loves his Huffy. It works.

Looks like a good beater. I'd probably put less aggressive tires on it though if it gets used for a lot of on road activity. Knobblies really slow you down.

Yes, but if he rides some rough terrain, then it's understandable. My MB-6 has road tires but 1.5", with rack so it's a errand runner.

I don't have the Huffy MTB to show but I'll provide faint praise for the one I had. My son won it in a raffle at school by gaming the raffle. Twas much like the OPs bike but red. My son handed it up, about 4 years ago, when he left town (maybe cuz his friends found out he owned a Huffy??). Truthfully THAT bike got me back into cycling so huzzah for the Huffy. I started out on our very fine rail-trail here and rode the tires off that bike. Heavy was good since I need the training and aerobic stress. One hill climb, though, that I could never complete. Had to always walk the last few yards. I was reminded, though, of how much I enjoyed cycling and I rode more until I realized the Huffy could not be maintained. The bearings, brake calipers and derailleurs were wearing out and could not be overhauled or were not worth the effort.

Eventually I bought the 95 Trek ZX7000 which did overhaul nicely. I rode all the way up that hill the first time and never looked back. The Huffy went to the electric furnace. Maybe part of some car or fridge now. I don't miss the Huffy but I'll not forget the Huffy. The Huffy led to the Treks which lead to cleaning up the old Motobecane Mirage which lead to the Cannondale R600 which lead to the Raleigh Professional and the Nishiki Int'l. I'd say the Huffy was a good bike. Huzzah!!

The Huffy in the original post is also the bike that got me back into cycling. I use it as a backup or beater bike since I got my Reflex Mountain Bike.

In my flipping days I never bothered with MTBs or kids bikes, but I picked this apparently unridden Huffy "Iron Man" MTB from my neighbors trash, added new bearings and grease (for the first time in its life - it was assembled at the store sans grease), installed new ss cables & adjusted the brakes, centered the inner tube stems, aired it up, polished it up, and posted it for $35 on CL.

It made some mom and her little boy very happy = possibly my best flip ever.

Bikes are bikes and as long as someone is riding them they are cool in my book. I always thought it would be fun to get a Huffy or Roadmaster and fit it with a full Campy driveline and show up at a club ride with it!!
