When can I expect riding to become enjoyable?

I really disliked playing golf at first, but then I learned to hate it, and still do. Golf doesn't get easier, you just play the rounds faster.

My trike is equipped with two tall flags and lights. I find that drivers give me a very wide berth since they think I am some sort of handicap device. Further I do not ride on heavy use arterial streets. 90% of my in town riding is done on the 130 miles of hard surface trails that Lincoln has.
Most do okay.
The next worst, of course, are the ones that refuse to pass, creating a long line of frustrated drivers who don't know why they are going slowly, and don't care. Those are the folks who scare me, because as soon as that first guy finally passes, the rest will try to rush by without even caring. It's the sixth guy in line who is the greatest risk.
And seriously ... I would Much rather ride 130 miles of paved trails that 130 miles of roads with bad traffic. I could take my diamond-frame bikes when I wanted, but also ride a trike when I didn't have errands to run, or didn't want to ride a particular route (i have a couple god climbing routes I like to hate.)

To make maters worse the Co Att refused to charge her in criminal court. He said the guy should not have been out there on that "contraption". His family had to resort to civil court.
I assisted family friends in getting and setting up a white memorial trike at the site.

Keep in mind that all of us older bent and trike riders have tens of thousands of miles on DF bikes. We now ride in comfort, and dont spend hours staring down at our front wheel.

The added benefit with a recumbent is that if you ride in traffic no car can see you--you could almost pass underneath some SUVs and pickups.
If the OP rides only rural roads with wide shoulders, go tadpole trike. If the OP dos any urban or dense suburban riding .... roll the dice.
I have wanted a trike for years but I will not decrease my survival chances by dropping below most cars' hood line. I would need to build an elevated light bar throwing retina-searing lumens before I would trust my life in a trike in traffic .....

I quit reading post around page 7. OP, have you thought that maybe you keep riding because you want to justify purchasing the bike? If so, sell the bike and do something else. A forum for those that love to ride bikes will tell you how great it is. It is for them, but not for you. Try something else.

People are ... well it would be uncharitable to say "People are stupid," wouldn't it?
I live where I do. I ride the roads I have around me.
When I am a billionaire, I will move somewhere just to ride, and I will have roads built to suit me ... I guess I will have to leave my wife if she doesn't approve ... but that's what matters, right?
What is wrong with a person that he or she has to crap on another person for enjoying whatever he or she has available?
Whatever ....
