Looks like a lot of hot air is being generated in response to this post.

As usual - really good advice about these kind of situations is difficult. So I am giving really obvious - "Richard Cranium" advice.

1 - use good tires that are noted for puncture resistance.
2 - use the best fitting tube possible - usually the biggest you can fit in the tire.
3 - inflate the tire to a pressure that supports whatever the load may be
4 - remind the young rider that they are responsible for avoiding flat tires
5 - use your own experience to warn the rider about where they should be careful about tire hazards - be it glass on the road or thorns in the grass, etc etc
Go to a phone forum if you want to post about phone usage and parenting. :-<

I do think giving her a cheap flip phone for emergencies would be a good idea. No chance of getting into social media that way, thus preventing possible issues down the line. As for tires, those Schwalbe Marathon Plus Tour 700X40 tires should hold up nicely and provide a bit of cushion.
