Gamrin 500 Custom Mount
Hey guys,
I have been laid out from cycling with a barrage of heart tests lately after some weird chest pains. Anyway, in trying to find a project to occupy my time, I have been looking for a custom mount to mount my garmin 500 in front of my handlebars, much like the unreleased quarq mount. Is there a bolt on option for this that anyone has found?

I have my Edge 500 on a custom mount in front of the bars and between my aerobars.
I used a piece of carbon from the old straight aerobars I had and made a nice mount out of that
The tools:
The finished mount:
Mounted on my bike:
This picture is with my old computer, but I've got an Edge 500 there now ... basicly any computer can be mounted.
If you don't have access to a nice piece of carbon, you could make one from plastic or aluminum.

I've got this on the S5. Its from FSA, no longer on their website but I found it on ebay. It clamps down on both sides of the handlebar.

Search ebay for bike computer mount carbon, there's several. For aerobars there's the profile design universal aerobar mount. I have the long one which works great. GL

I ordered the Dashboard Genie that slims_s linked to above (https://www.bdopcycling.com/Dashboard%20Genie.asp).
It arrived today and so I though I'd update the thread for anyone who was interested.
I ordered it on 2/27/12 - Considering it came direct from China, 8 business days isn't too shabby.
It's really nice quality, the AI arm and CF mount are pretty much flawless - good workmanship and I'm very happy. Looks sharp on the bike too!
It definitely improves the visibility of the Garmin... On my ride today, I was able to read it with just a quick glance down... When it was on my stem, I hardly ever looked at it while riding - it just took too long for my eyes to find it.

Neither would I. I don't get it. What's wrong with the stem or handlebars?
But I guess if you have to use an aftermarket mount it should be THIS one.

Great. That one is $40. I would happily take either one for free though.

^ ^ Sorry, nobody asked me otherwise I would have chimed in earlier. If you look at that middle pic in the link I provided, that mount is awesome.
Yeah, well when I'm descending I just pedal as fast as I can. Once in the safety of my home, I just look at the max speed or the data on garmin connect.

I have the FSA version of the one-arm mount and it sucks. Shakes so badly on rough roads that I couldn't read the display. I'd get a two arm version next time. GL

I think the problem with the FSA mount is that the arm is plastic... The chinese one I bought is AI... waaay better.

I am really interested in this pount also. Part of me thinks it looks cool, the other part of me is hesitant. I think, is it worth $40 to have the garmin out just 3 more inches???

I would have already ordered the above linked Bar Fly if it weren't currently out of stock. I'm a little relieved, actually... saved me from my internet "Add to cart" impulsiveness. lol.

Well I just ordered mine. Lets see how long it takes to get.
Oh fantastic, thanks for coming to the party late. I would have much rather had that one.
I'm sorry you don't get why someone would want to use one of these.
For me, mounting on the stem is too low to safely glance down while on a fast descent (Which is why we all have speedometers, right? To see how fast we can go downhill?).
As for mounting on the bars, well that's just plain ugly in it's asymmetry... It taunts me and screws with my OCD. I already have a hard enough time dealing with the fact that there's a crank only on one side of the bike!

Here is an option guys...$20/free shipping!
https://www.ebay.com/itm/DOUBLE-CLAMP...045#vi-content
I kind of like the double mount. looks more symetrical to me.
