Recently moved to Miami from NY and there is simply no stock of bikes down here (and from what I am learning, elsewhere as well).

Wanted to get a Trek Verve but cannot find any.

Local shop has 1 Cannondale Quick CX 4 available. I am looking for something to cruise around Miami with.

Should I just grab this bike while it's still available?

That was going to be my next post. I am exactly 5'9" and 1/2 so I generally fall between medium and large.

Do Cannondales run larger or small? Should I err on the side of smaller or larger?

Test ride should answer that. Between usually doesn't mean neither, it means either. You can get the shop to put a longer stem on it if it feels cramped.

This is still not a very leaned-forward bike but it is more leaned-forward than the Adventure you were shopping last week. OK with that?

I'm about the same height as you and my Cannondale Quick is a medium. Fits me perfectly.

My wife has a 2015 version of the Quick 4 and loves it. It will do a great job.

Looks great. As for "commuter" bikes...

I live on a street that's a designated bike thoroughfare. My breakfast table (and now also my work-from-home office) look out into the street. So I see a lot of bikes. And what kinds of bikes do people use for commuting? Answer: Pretty much anything that works. If it rolls, is comfortable, and reliable, you can commute on it. Bonus points if it improves your enjoyment of cycling, and if you pick up a few basic maintenance skills so you're not dependent on the shop for everything.

My wife has a Quick and absolutely loves it. I steered a friend towards one as well a number of years ago. I met her at a shop I deal with, and got her fitted on one, and she bought it. She loves it as well. It is one of the best, "hybrid" bikes out there in my opinion. I actually like it myself when I take hers for a test ride after doing maintenance on it.

The regular Quick is very road-bikey, more so than some of the competitors like the FX. The one I test rode last year was a nicer model with a carbon fork, and it was great. Smooth, planted, and, yes, quick. I almost bought it but I wanted a 1x drivetrain and more tire clearance. This year it has a little bluetooth speed sensor and a phone app.

The suspension fork CX version looks much like its competitors.

I commuted on my Quick tonight in wet and slushy snow. No studded tires yet, just all season Marathon for now and they performed just fine.

I see that this thread is old (last post in 2020) however, I love my cannondale cx-4. i can easily ride 20 miles plus on this bike. i upgraded the saddle, and handlegrips, added a carrier rack on the back, 2 water bottle cages, a cateye wireless computer, a headlight/tail light, and bluetooth speaker. also have saddle bag on frame to hold phone.
i purchased the bike in july 2020, and currently have just over 800 miles on it.
